This is a key role in the RDD, Category and Operations Finance team based in the UK. The Senior Cost Engineer role is responsible E2E product cost management through the product lifecycle as project progress from UK to SEA to launch.  The role involves working globally and with a cross functional team.  The role will work closely with procurement, engineering, NPI and manufacturing bringing to bear your experience and knowledge to challenge and reduce costs. The product cost along with time, specification and benefit is a key focus area for product development and investment appraisal within Dyson.  

About the role


  • Support product cost E2E through the product lifecycle driving efficiencies and cost down​.
  • Build ground up cost estimates for new projects currently being developed within Research Design and Development (RDD).​
  • Conduct reviews with Engineering to calculate future product costs and understand the associated risks and opportunities which could impact a product as it progresses through the development cycle.​
  • Use your experience and knowledge to influence product, assembly and component design to reduce cost where possible.​
  • Work closely with (challenge) Engineering, Operations, Procurement and Finance to agree achievable, but stretching Target costs.​Work with Engineering and Procurement to develop new cost calculation tools.

About you

  • An engineering / manufacturing degree with previous experience within a costing role.​
  • Demonstrable analytical ability gained in a previous engineering role or similar technical discipline.​

  • Experience of premium consumer and/or technology businesses ​
  • Strong communication and leadership skills​
