About us

The SEA Customs and International Trade Manager is envisioned to lead and manage the SEA Customs and International Trade Team.  This involves defining and driving the Customs and Trade agenda, including but not limited to compliance monitoring, trade facilitation, and maximizing/optimizing duty savings and market access.  
He/She will ensure Dyson's compliance with local and international trade regulations through risk management, policy development, regulatory analysis, process design and analytics, automation, as well as external engagement and advocacy.  This position will collaborate with Dyson Manufacturing and Engineering Operations, Research Design and Development (RDD), its business support groups, suppliers and distributors and help their respective businesses through training and awareness programs, as well as defining and managing effective indicators that will drive actions.  
He/She will also be responsible in managing the Brokers and will champion automation and maintenance of trade related data.  He/She will maximize the benefits of Free Trade Agreements and will ensure appropriate import and export authorizations from various national governments are secured.  Lastly, the position will help drive the Export Control program, primarily but not limited to the Dyson’s Home Business.  The position will be part of of Dyson’s global customs and international trade team, reporting to the Head of Customs APAC. This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference in a global, innovative technology company.    

About the role

Responsibilities:
  • Champions Customs and International Trade compliance and strategic programs to advance Dyson CIT Charter
  • Ensures compliance with local and international trade regulations and trade facilitation schemes (i.e. LMW, MES, PEZA, etc.)
  • Champions trade facilitation without compromising controls and compliance, consistent with The Code
  • Drives risk management program including risk assessment and assurance audit
  • Ensures appropriate HTS Classification, Valuation, and Country of Origin
  • Ensures Preferential COO requirements are met and secured
  • Defines and Drives Export Control and Compliance Program
  • Manages Dyson’s Broker
  • Drives Cost Savings and Cost Avoidance Program
  • Defines and drives strategic Customs indicators that drive actions through data.
  • Documents and updates Customs and International Trade Procedures in close collaboration with Supply Chain teams to ensure fast and compliant customs clearance of both imports and exports
  • Manages customs audits or enquiries as and when they arise ensuring enquiries are brought to a close in an efficient and timely manner
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with both internal (Manufacturing, RDD, Procurement, Supply Chain, Legal, Finance, and the group’s customs team) and external stakeholders (customs broker, government agencies, advisors etc.)
  • Uses expertise to monitor and anticipate regulatory changes and its impact to business including deep analysis and recommending mitigating measures
  • Provides ongoing technical advice to support the business including working with external advisors as required
  • Prepares and delivers customs technical training to stakeholders, as and when required

About you

Essential Skills:
  • Minimum 5 years proven international customs and international trade experience
  • Experienced on all aspects of Free Trade Agreements
  • Experienced on Customs valuation, Customs Classification & Origin Management
  • Experienced on Export Control and Compliance
  • Experienced on Regulatory Analysis, Trade Advocacy, and Influence
  • Good understanding of logistics/supply chain operations
  • Good understanding of incoterms
  • Must be a self-starter, resilient and flexible
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels, in different mediums
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Must be able to work with challenging deadlines and prioritize work effectively
  • Good organizational skills
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Great analytical skills
  • Good project management skills
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English

Desirable Skills:        
  • Operational customs and international trade experience
  • People / Organization skills
