About the role. 

This is an opportunity to drive Dyson's ambitious robotics research program forward by planning, designing, and applying cutting-edge reinforcement learning methods to solve problems in the real world. You will work in a growing team of experts and will closely collaborate with our hardware, perception, and design teams to inform many of their decisions.  

  • You will design robot control algorithms based on reinforcement learning techniques. 

  • You will test the most promising ideas both in a simulator and on the physical platforms. 

  • You will cooperate with designers and mechanical engineers to obtain a control-aware design of the hardware. 

  • You will be aiming to get functional controllers working on real robots operating in realistic situations. 

About You

Desired skills and qualifications.  

  • PhD in robotics, or equivalent, and 3+ years of experience in control of advanced robots. 

  • Experience with deep learning tools such as Pytorch, TensorFlow or Jax.  

  • An understanding of the mathematics behind the workings of the most popular RL algorithms.  

  • Experience with robot physics simulators such as Mujoco, Pybullet, Isaac gym or Raisim. 

  • Hands on experience with physical robots.  

  • Proficiency in Python or C++. 

  • Some knowledge of classical advanced robot control concepts, such as impedance control, whole-body control, dynamic stability, and floating base robots.  

  • Experience and familiarity with ROS or equivalent. 

  • Experience with agile software development.
