As Engineering Lead you manage a team to deliver solutions for multiple projects and/or complex problems. You will use best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products, processes and capability.  You will be accountable for managing the performance of a team within own function, driving team engagement and supporting individual development. As well as providing managerial guidance to line managers within the team.


  • Take a proactive approach in the generation of ideas – gather research, present ideas and concepts to senior management 
  • Leads a team to develop products that meet or exceed the technical specification, cost, time, reliability & quality requirements 
  • Ensure the safety and reliability of all Dyson products 
  • Work seamlessly with research teams to utilise the wealth of technical skills to get best value from Dyson technologies 
  • Responsible for leadership of the team, ensuring deliverables are met to a high standard and that the team and individuals capability are aligned to the business requirements 
  • Drives continuous improvement initiatives to embed learning into working practices and streamlining processes 
  • Accountable for effective handovers between teams 
  • Accountable for ensuring readiness of projects for design/research review and any resulting actions 
  • Plans resources and leads recruitment for their team
  • Provides technical guidance to employees 
  • Typically resolves complex problems, or problems where a precedent may not exist 
  • Embeds learnings into continuous improvement activity both within their team and the wider team
  • Works independently, receives minimal guidance


  • At least a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Between 5-10 years previous experience designing manufactured products and practical knowledge of 3D CAD 
  • Experience of managing a small team 
  • Sound understanding and knowledge of physical principles 
  • A strong understanding of practical and methodical design development through prototyping, testing and evaluation of results
  • Knowledge and understanding of plastic injection moulding, tooling and other manufacturing methods 
  • A passion for engineering. Able to demonstrate how your ideas have made a difference 
  • Ability to plan ahead, prioritise tasks and coordinate with the work of others. 
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skills. 
  • Self starter - ability to work independently.
