About the role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our multi-disciplined team to work on our next generation of Haircare products. At Dyson we develop new technologies to dry and style hair, solving problems that others ignore, and develop unique and innovative products that answer a real user need. Our Haircare engineering team has been the driving force behind our success with recent products such as Supersonic, Airwrap & Corrale, joining the team will give you the opportunity to be a significant part of the next generation of products. 

We work as a collaborative team with disciplines focused on end style performance, user experience, structural integration, airflow, heat and power delivery systems. We are solving problems for people globally and we design for a diverse range of user needs and hair types.

As an Engineering Manager you will lead a team to deliver design & engineering solutions on time, to specification, to quality & cost.

You will be responsible for your teams’ output, and alignment across other teams to ensure efficient working practices and global use of resource.  Influencing other cross functional disciplines to arrive at technology and integrated solutions to achieve the product vison and will be expected to make design and engineering proposals, & engineering decisions.

Your accountabilities will include the capability of the team through knowledge growth & retention, and the professional development of each member your engineering team.

You will have a passion and a drive to grow knowledge in both mechanical and digital platforms within the wider global engineering community at Dyson.

As an Engineering Manager you will role model the Dyson values and create a high-performance culture.


  • Managing capability and resources in the team to meet project schedules. The manager must ensure that all the technical issues are well matched to the capability & development needs of the individuals within their team. 

  • Assess and maintain technical capability of the design Engineering team. 

  • Work with senior managers to implement the most suitable structure of the design engineering team to deliver the project. 

  • Assess engineering risk & lead their team to integrated solutions through collaboration. 

  • Apply theory, data & intuition to make sound design & engineering judgements & proposals. 

About you

  • A good Engineering/ Science/ Math Degree (or equivalent), or other relevant discipline and a demonstrable level of industrial experience in a relevant industry.

  • Experience in managing an engaged team, taking responsibility for all related operational tasks such as goal setting, coaching and performance evaluation.

  • Produce reports and presentations summarising progress against team and project goals, effectively and engagingly presenting complex technical information and analysis to senior and Executive level management.

  • Experience using Siemens NX, ANSYS Workbench or other equivalent design tools.

  • Excellent analytical ability and attention to detail.

  • Effective communicator: appropriate, concise and accurate information in written and verbal format.

  • Comfortable at multi-tasking and planning effectively when working with a variety of project teams.

  • Excellent team working skills and a desire to inspire others within the team.
