Global Lead of Commercial Management

About the Role

Lead a team of Regional Commercial Managers responsible for leading project commercial delivery strategy, providing commercial assurance and planning the execution of all Capex spend across the portfolio of Capital Projects.

To ensure the Capital Investment Plan (CIP) is aligned to overall Dyson strategic objectives. To provide strategic oversight and assurance to the delivery of the annual CIP and the 5 year capex masterplan. 

To provide commercial due diligence throughout the annual capital delivery process that drives best value for Dyson.

Measures of Performance

  • Delivery of regular capital investment reports in co-ordination with Finance.

  • Demonstrate value for money against the business case through use of project gateway, commercial due diligence and market comparitors.

  • Drive realisation of risk and value improvements and capital efficiency targets.

  • Enable efficient Commercial Management Information - right first time, on time.

  • Interface with Procurement to deliver robust commercial and contract management that supports the aims of professional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities (but not limited to)

  • Establish and maintain a portfolio level 5 year Capital Investment Plan (CIP).  Collate and integrate the inputs from other Capex functions outside of Estates such as IT and Security.

  • Establish a system to categorise, prioritise and select projects to form the annual Capital Investment Plan.  Integrate inputs from IT and Security.

  • For all Capital Projects, develop budget numbers to achieve the requirements of individual project Strategic Briefs to establish an annual CIP baseline.

  • Provide Capital Investment Planning and commercial oversight of projects to ensure they represent value for money and are in line with the business case.

  • Capital management including budgets, reforecast etc.

  • Oversight of Portfolio commercial delivery. 

  • Management and co-ordination of accurate monthly portfolio level commercial reporting.  Integrate inputs from IT and Security.

  • Effective communication of the portfolio-wide monthly reporting including health and safety, risk, cost, program and contract management etc.

  • Develop Global Commercial Management Framework to enable consistency in commercial delivery, resolving challenges and driving continuous improvement.

  • Identify and drive enterprise wide procurement opportunities for Capital Projects.

  • Assure that the commercial teams follow the commercial and procurement process and achieve best value by developing optimum delivery strategies into procurement plans and contract awards inclusive of incentivisation.

  • Own the performance framework and related processes to drive supplier performance and enhance collective capability across all projects.

  • Lead an environment where the cost efficiency can be tracked and managed.

  • Assess the Commercial team’s performance to provide cost assurance and monitor the impact of design solutions against allocated budgets.

  • Support the development of a working culture that promotes engagement in unfiltered commercial debate to foster an energised open collaborative approach with common understanding and goals.

  • Assess the Capital Projects Delivery Teams on all change including proposed scope changes, recommending appropriate action in accordance with our change control systems and assess if all required documentation for approval in accordance with levels of delegated authority including comparative estimates has been completed in a timely manner.

  • Monitor the project team’s recommendations for all applications for payment in accordance with relevant funding agreements, including supporting documentation as appropriate.

  • Identify and advise on all commercial risk/claim events across the program.

  • Assess the quantification of program level risks through the risk management process.

  • Develop consistent, efficient and effective cost reporting for all projects to enable proactive cost management activity. Provide and communicate portfolio-wide and project EFC forecasts, expenditure and commitments reports and commercial governance assurance, e.g. sanction funding.

  • Monitor the project teams’ recommendations for all final account settlements and internal reconciliation to project close-out as per the project authority, project plan and within agreed timescales. For multi-year framework agreements, agree and reconcile annual accounts within 6 months of each year-end.

  • Generate and implement continuous improvement proposals.

About You

  • 15+ years in Commercial Management roles.

  • Professional qualification to demonstrate suitability for role. Use of / trained in Ariba would be benefical but not essential.

  • Demonstrated success leading commercial teams in the planning, development and execution of a pipeline of capital works within a live operational environment. 

  • Experience leading commercial teams in the commercial office, technology / hi-tech manufacturing and retail sectors preferred, however not essential.

  • Experience having led commercial teams to achieve the planned benefits and business objectives.

  • Experience in delivering commercial management programmes in Regional or preferably Global Commercial Management capacity, ideally with experience in APAC.

  • Experience in successfully collaborating with multiple stakeholders both internally in a matrix structure as well as externally.
