Our Manufacturing Engineering department supports Dyson’s engineers worldwide, turning ideas into ground-breaking technology. Involved early in the design stage, we identify materials, pre-empt production issues and find ways to build more efficiently, yet robustly. From designing the machines, to the machines that build the machines, we’re helping to shape the future of technology.

There are exciting opportunities to join three teams – Tooling, Manufacturing Process and Manufacturing – Automation.
About the role
As a graduate, you’ll be learning from industry experts and gaining invaluable exposure to the inner workings of Dyson. You’ll be expected to hit the ground running on one of Dyson’s many live projects, demonstrating your technical skills and contributing to your team, whilst developing your knowledge of Dyson and our technology. Working as part of a larger project team, you’ll have your own set of project deliverables and the chance to take ownership of how these are achieved.
You will be joining either one of the teams below and have the opportunity to guide and work with our Research, Design and Development teams as well as Manufacturing Engineering and Operations team. You will also be working with global cross functional teams and lead or participate in data driven risk analysis to enable informed review of manufacturing plans.
Tooling
Working with stakeholders to deliver best practice regarding tooling programs assigned that cover the scope in tool design, tool trouble-shoot, tool qualification, process development, schedule tracking and mass production support, in the most cost-efficient way whilst ensuring tooling robustness, product quality and reliability targets are achieved
Work with RDD and Tool Makers on 2D Drawing review for datums, measurement feasibility, Geodesic Dimension & Tooling, which detail down the specification clearly what can be achieved and what that’s not achievable or how can it be done considering different post moulding processes.
Work with contract manufacturing assembly moulding related issues
Dyson Digital Motor Manufacturing
Working with stakeholders to deliver best practice regarding assembly and/or Dyson Digital Motor (DDM) manufacturing processes, in the most cost-efficient way whilst ensuring product quality and reliability targets are achieved
Willing to roll up the sleeve and work with Automation suppliers on machine installations and commissioning to achieve operational goals.
Keen to learn and work on industrial robots and AGV systems
Follow safe work practices at all times as per Dyson requirements
Manufacturing - Automation
Work on next generation battery technology and learn how batteries are made
Experience leading automation design, PLC and Robot integration
Involve in new factory design
Work on Tecnomatix plant simulation
Working with engineers and scientists/technical experts across a broad range of disciplines, you’ll be comfortable learning from others, but also sharing your own knowledge, ideas and opinions.
About you
Working at the forefront of technology is tough so standards and expectations are high. You’ll be contributing to live projects from the start so you’ll need to be curious, hungry to learn and ready to get stuck in. But it’s not just about technical expertise. You’ll need to be:
On track for 2nd upper class honours or above and be studying towards a Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical & Electronics, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering disciplines.
Graduating in 2022
Able to evidence how you have applied your technical knowledge to solve problems, either through your university projects or as part of your extra-curricular activities.
Able to understand and/or interpret 2D drawings for mechanical parts
Interested in Manufacturing Engineering, Design and Automation, Robotics and Automated Guided Vehicles and Factory Automation
Happy to build your own networks to learn from the technical expertise around you.
Creative in your approach to problem solving and passionate about Dyson and our technology to help meet our ambitious future plans
