Group Risk Manager

About The Role

Reporting to the Head of Group Risk within the global Group Risk team, you will support and challenge designated areas of the business to identify, prioritise, and actively manage risks.  You will also provide close support to the Head of Group Risk and Director of Risk in the implementation of initiatives to embed risk management, understanding of key Group Risks, and delivery of reporting to the Executive and Board.

This newly created role will provide a unique insight into how the Group operates internationally and involves high levels of exposure to senior management.  Part of a recently enhanced function, it also provides the opportunity to help shape and implement risk processes in a high growth and entrepreneurial business. The role requires previous risk management experience, preferably within a large international consumer product business.

Main Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Building an initial understanding of the risk profile of designated functions by conducting risk assessments and facilitating risk workshops.

  • Business partnering to provide ongoing support and challenge over the identification, assessment and management of risks.  Acting as the primary point of contact on risk management matters.

  • Ensuring that significant risks and / or weaknesses in action plans are escalated appropriately.

  • Collaborating with Internal Audit and other assurance providers to build and maintain an understanding of the effectiveness of measures to mitigate key risks.

  • Attending regular risk governance forums and supporting their preparation.

  • Preparing risk reports and analysis for key stakeholders as required.

  • Encouraging the practical use of risk information in key processes and decision making (e.g. strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting).

  • Delivering training / communications and sharing best practice.

  • Supporting the Head of Group Risk to:

    • Assess and prioritise the key Group risks.

    • Prepare risk reporting for the Executive Risk Committee and Board; and other forums as required.

    • Deliver Executive Risk Committee secretariat and administration requirements.

    • Implement elements of the risk management framework to embed risk management across the Group.

    • Identify and analyse emerging risks from internal and external sources / data.

  • Supporting the delivery of special risk response projects as required.

  • Contributing to other initiatives aimed at developing and improving the Group’s internal control and governance frameworks; and improving the Group Risk function.

About You

  • Significant experience in a similar role, preferably within a consumer product environment

  • Demonstrable experience of partnering with business functions in a large matrix organisation

  • Able and experienced in quantifying the financial impact of risks – a financial or accounting background would therefore be valuable

  • Educated to degree level (2:1 or higher) or equivalent from a recognised institution

  • Professional qualification in Risk Management (e.g. IRM) or other relevant areas of Internal Controls / Governance / Accounting would be beneficial

  • Pragmatic and commercial approach to risk management and problem solving, avoiding a compliance / ‘tick box’ mindset

  • Ability to communicate risk information / processes clearly and succinctly to stakeholders

  • Experience in developing relationships with senior management across all areas of the business and to influence these stakeholders to effect change – preferably within a matrix environment

  • Capable of providing robust challenge to stakeholders and escalating concerns where required

  • Calm under pressure

  • Credibility at senior management level, including with C-level Executives

  • Demonstrates the highest levels of integrity at all times

  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills

  • Attention to detail and ability to deliver projects concurrently

  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively to deliver high quality results

  • Drive to understand all aspects of the operations of Dyson Group

  • Willingness to travel internationally
