The Communications team creates and manages our narrative. Working closely with senior stakeholders, they deploy our stories strategically through press, online media and internal comms to build our reputation. Our high-profile reputation helps grow our business by indirectly selling our technology and positions Dyson as a great place to work. The team is responsible for a range of communications from public relations and business, products and launches to internal messaging and events.
About the role
We are looking for a dynamic and well-organised Head of Communications to develop and support the strategic direction and execution of Dyson’s approach to Beauty Communications across the EMEA region.
As a key member of the EMEA Communications team, this individual will be responsible for driving all EMEA markets on the localisation of planning, execution and creative ideation, both virtual and physical, of all our Beauty NPD and Non-NPD communications campaigns. A particular focus will be on setting up campaigns that enable Dyson to sustain social and media coverage beyond new products as well as wider day-to-day market support.
This role will ideally be based in Amsterdam, home of our EMEA HQ. We could also look at other locations for this role : London, UK, where multiple key EMEA publications houses are located (eg Condenast) or Paris, FR, leading Beauty capital in EMEA with Fashion & Beauty KOLs.
As part of the EMEA Communications team and working closely with Group Product Communications team, this individual will be responsible for all NPD and Non-NPD campaigns for Beauty – supporting EMEA markets with the localisation of planning, execution and creative ideation, both virtual and physical. A particular focus will be on campaigns that enable Dyson to sustain social and media coverage in the region beyond new products.
Demonstrate high business acumen and understanding of Dyson. Provide strategic communications advice related to Beauty to the EMEA Leadership team.
Storytelling: Support markets in creating relevant storytelling and communications materials to talk to media and influencers on a year-round basis - based on a strong editorial calendar.
Regional media outreach : Be familiar with key regional beauty editors and media companies (ex Condenast, Hearst…) in order to implement regional press strategy and events and award approach.
Integrated 360 comms: Work in partnership with our Regional VP of Beauty and EMEA Centre of Excellence team (Commercial Marketing, Owner Experience, Social Content), to deliver communications strategies to deploy in a 360 way. Harnessing the impact of paid, owned and earned.
Oversee product related reactive communications, including issue management and Beauty competitor activity. Close connection with external facing teams (esp. Customer service and retail teams) will be necessary to ensure consistency in communication.
Media monitoring and campaign measurement to know what media are saying about our products, and understand the impact and effectiveness of our campaigns.
Events: Build and host regional event activations, both online and offline. Ensure all local Beauty events are well attended and high impact, while adhering to global guidelines.
Influence : Work alongside Global team to implement a regional strategic direction of influencers across the Beauty space, ensuring that markets work with the right profiles, supporting teams with local narratives and content briefs.
Coordinate Dyson’s approach to engaging with professional stylists within EMEA. Ensure each styling ambassador is abreast of Dyson’s latest technology and narratives and ultimately involved in the way we communicate our beauty technology to media, stylists and influencers.
The role will be initially limited for 12 months with a strong intent to convert it into a permanent one afterwards.
Minimum 10 + years’ experience in a management role focused on communications – either in-house, agency side or as a journalist.
A detailed knowledge of EMEA beauty media across all its platforms acquired through an experience of working within Beauty companies
Demonstrated skill and comfort in building relationships with top tier Beauty editors, KOLs and content creators.
Excellent storytelling ability, brilliant interpersonal skills and robust commercial understanding.
Confident, collaborative, and communicative with a desire to thrive in a fast-paced environment
An ability to influence at the highest levels through clear, informed and logical discussion.
Cultural awareness and experience of the nuances of working for a global innovative beauty company.
The role is an ambassador for Dyson for the individual will be fastidious in organisation and presentation, with vision and purposes as well as an eye for the detail
