About the role

To lead, develop and enhance product development capability and engineering processes, driving productivity reducing time-to-market, and amplifying Dyson’s product quality through good engineering practise.

Central to our overarching framework is a systems engineering ‘V-Model’ comprised of; BOM & Configuration Management, Requirements Management, Failure Mode Avoidance, Virtual Series, Test, Verification and Validation, and Engineering Change Management processes.

Reporting into the Director of Delivery & Integration and working closely with the central IT and PMO project management teams, this role will unify the process strategy and energise the implementation plan across Research, Design and Development RDD, Manufacturing, Supply Chain & Commercial functions globally.

  • Provide thought leadership and be accountable for converting the strategic business vision into a series of large transformational programmes and/or continuous improvement activities for each capability.

  • Own the vision and manage change for each capability across all invested stakeholders and ensure compatibility throughout the product lifecycle for all product categories globally.

  • Lead the delivery of these programmes to enhance Dyson’s core product development capability.

  • Own and manage a programme roadmap for each capability to develop people and improve process and tools. Each roadmap shall be underpinned with a multi-year plan enabled by a series of fully resourced and prioritised projects. This must balance process efficiency with process governance and embed them as business as usual in how we develop products globally.

  • Own and define the Product data architecture hierarchy, refining structure and driving clarity and understanding across the business.

  • This position will serve to transform and embed industry best practices within project roles and IT systems along with their respective data flows.

  • Recruit and develop a team with sufficient expertise, vision and thought leadership, and influence to deliver a step-change in capability and implement change with impact and scale across product development.

About you

  • You will be recognised as credible contributor in your field with an expert knowledge in Test, Verification and Validation, and Engineering Change Management, and a strong understanding of other core product development best practices.

  • Experience in an Engineering Verification, Validation and Robust Change Management in a fast environment.

  • You will have strong long-term thinking and understand how to make good decisions and Identify opportunities.

  • An appreciation of the impact of organisational transformation and what is required to deliver the benefits to the business.

  • Excellent stakeholder management, with experience dealing with a wide variety of stakeholders from C-level to individual engineers. Varying messaging for different stakeholders and levels of understanding.

  • Ability to communicate complex ideas simply and possess an inherent desire to drive improvement through new ways of working.

  • A successful track record of continuous process improvement and transformation within a product development industry.

  • Have high quality and courageous conversations with teams that create high energy and alignment. Challenging leaders to get the best from their teams, making a strong enterprise-wide contribution as a member of the leadership team.

  • Comfortable working autonomously to resolve complex challenges where no precedent exists.

  • You will have a proven ability to mentor and guide individuals, proactively disseminating your knowledge and assisting in people development.

  • An appreciation of Product Lifecyle Management applications (e.g. Siemens Teamcenter) and knowledge of downstream Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) process and system dependences.

  • Experience of working in a global environment - sensitive to and experienced in cultural differences.

  • Understanding and experience in ISO 9001 and other Quality Management System (QMS) standards for engineering change control.

  • Experience in process improvement and transformation activities with IT applications.
