At Dyson we are focused on solving the problems that others have ignored; solving them first using our technology and ingenuity. In order to achieve this we need to pioneer technologies that are different and authentic. This is the core of what we do and who we are. We must strive to create the future, every single day by developing new things, different things, things that go against the grain with a diverse and global team of ingenious minds.
Dyson employs over 13,000 people and is present in more than 80 countries. And while we are growing fast we want Dyson to remain a start-up in spirit with the freedom of experimentation and learning, constantly reinventing our products as well as reinventing how we work, how we sell and how we support our owners. At the same time we are working through the James Dyson Foundation, James Dyson Award and Dyson Institute to inspire future engineers and pioneering a new approach to engineering education.
Underlining everything we do in this diverse environment is the need to always show respect, supporting each other as one team to overcome whatever challenges we encounter. We drive empowerment, development and equality in an inclusive environment for our people around the world. The future doesn’t just happen, we look to make it happen, to achieve leaps through pioneering new ideas.
This is an exciting time to join a growing company. If think your experience matches any of these roles, we should talk.
About the role
To achieve this growth, we are opening a campus in the Philippines where we ultimately plan to grow to over 120 design engineers. This team will take full ownership of Design Engineering for the Haircare category in the next 24 months. It is a crucial role for the success of the team and will be leading our transition project of Haircare Design Engineering to the Philippines. Therefore, this role will report to our Head of Design Engineering (Haircare) during the transition period, then directly to our Director of Design Engineering.
As part of a matrix RDD organisation, the Head of Design Engineering (HC) - Philippines runs a large-scale engineering team focused on the design and development of products within our Haircare category. Based in Dyson’s Philippines Development Centre, this team provides the capability to pick up product concepts from their upstream counterparts and develop these into designs that can be efficiently manufactured at scale. The Head of Design Engineering runs the Philippines-based team but collaborates regularly with our UK-based Head of Design Engineering to ensure a seamless transition as the work moves from UK to PDC. This means establishing shared goals and expectations, tools and processes - throughout the development cycle from the first milestone to the last.
Our category focused Heads of Design Engineering are our people leaders. They develop our capability in line with long term business needs: recruiting, coaching and developing our people & building the supporting infrastructure in our processes and our facilities. They set and explain the long-term vision, including annual goals and objectives. As the figurehead of an engineering department, they take accountability for the quality and timeliness of their team’s work, ensuring its productivity and cost effectiveness.
Working together with the Heads of Department across RDD, Operations and Quality they are influential in creating effective multi-disciplinary project teams and delivering a continuous portfolio of HC products.
