In Electronics Systems Research Team we use technology to find new ways to solve problems others tend to ignore.  Many of the technologies found in our products start in our team.

We are very excited to be doubling the size of the team in the UK and we are looking for a Head of Power Electronics Research to help expand the existing team and manage our increasing portfolio of projects.  The role provides a unique opportunity to expand and lead the team, whilst also working on new technologies in new product categories to Dyson.

We have unique strategic partnerships with top universities and businesses globally to gain insight into the future state-of-the-art and help form our technology and product roadmap, allowing us to differentiate from the competition.

About The Role

The Head of Power Electronics Research role in the UK provides an opportunity to grow our existing multidisciplinary team of Power Electronics Engineers and Embedded Software Engineers to help build complete systems, as well as building business relationships to bring new technologies to life.  By researching into latest technologies for our products, you and the team will develop new ideas to a level where they are understood and de-risked to be realised in product.  You will be running a portfolio of projects, each project team comprised of specialists in different engineering disciplines and taking new ideas to a prototype level prior to transfer to our development teams.  You will be working alongside other Heads of Power Electronics in the team covering different areas of our project portfolio.

  • Expand and manage a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and technicians.

  • Oversee a portfolio of power electronic related projects covering areas such as motor control, heater control and power conversion.

  • Prepare research reviews and deliver presentations to senior stakeholders in the business.

  • Develop our fundamental understanding of new technologies and contribute to research strategy and range plans.

  • Develop business relationships internally and with external partners to augment our current in-house technical capabilities and secure the latest technologies.

  • Role model Dyson’s values to lead specialist research teams and grow their potential.

  • Assume responsibility for the inclusion and well-being of your team; nurturing them to be the best version of themselves.

  • Lead on the recruitment and associated people development plans for your teams.

About you

  • BEng/MEng degree (or equivalent) in Electronic Engineering, or other relevant discipline, or a demonstrable level of industrial experience in a relevant industry.

  • Leadership of large multi-disciplinary engineering teams and ability to leverage their potential based on an inclusive approach to team management.

  • Evidence of people management and leading a large multi-disciplinary engineering team.

  • Proven ability to innovate, generate IP and produce strategic research roadmaps.

  • Experience with collaborative research programs including working with advisory boards, industry or academic partners would be an advantage.

  • Working knowledge of working in consumer electronics desirable.

  • Knowledge of a wide range of power electronic systems, preferably including areas such as battery management, motor control and heater control.
