About us
At Dyson we are obsessed with continuously making things better, pushing the boundaries of what others have defined as impossible. We do this by making products that solve real-world problems using both novel and established technologies in new and innovative ways.
Our Verification and Test Team plays an integral part in determining how, when, and where we verify and validate innovative technologies and products to ensure designs are robust to real-world conditions and perform better than the competition. While our primary function is to verify requirements, at the early stages of a project we add value by characterising the performance of prototypes and feeding back data to drive good design.
We're committed to our campus culture and don’t look to offer a regular hybrid working arrangement. This helps us to achieve the spirit of Dyson – collaboration, creativity, and inventiveness – in our inspiring, social, and dynamic workspaces.
About the role
As a Functional Lead for the Test Systems electrical and controls design team, you will focus on designing and integrating controls, instrumentation, and automation for specialised industrial machinery and automated equipment. Your expertise will play a pivotal role in accelerating the development of innovative commercial products that are world-leading in their field.
In this capacity, you will oversee all aspects of electrical and control hardware design and specification, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Your responsibilities extend to shaping the tools, methods, processes, and best practices within the electrical and controls domain, establishing a standardised approach for common project elements, and serving as a consultant on projects handled by fellow controls engineers. Beyond this, you will have the opportunity to lead equipment design projects, manage a sub-team of controls engineers, and oversee the outsourcing of equipment design projects.
Your key duties include specifying and designing electrical systems for test equipment, providing technical leadership to colleagues in the electrical/controls function, promoting a "house style" for shared project components, coaching colleagues in the use of EPLAN, fostering a high-performance team culture, ensuring comprehensive documentation of work, and potentially taking on line-management responsibilities. Your role is pivotal in driving innovation and excellence within our test systems development organization.
