NPI Data Science team sits at the beginning of the ideation of product focused ML & data-products that enhance the product experience. More than ever, the data engineering challenges are some of the most vital for our future roadmap.

This role requires finding solutions to every increasing order of magnitudes and working early in development cycle to lay foundations for future connected products.

We are looking for an ambitious & resourceful Lead Data Engineer who is looking for truly innovative environment to pioneer our capabilities and architect our data infrastructure to be fit for the future.

About the role

The Lead Data Engineer to join a growing and highly motivated data science team, in the heart of Dyson’s NPI Design & Product Experience department in the UK.

NPI-Data Science is a global & diverse team, responsible for identifying/develop opportunities to enhance the product experience with data. Working closely with the machine learning research team and cloud/software engineering teams, NPI-Data Science is responsible for driving the roadmap of innovation.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead a number of data engineering projects/initiatives that will underpin a roadmap of exciting new data products and capabilities.

  • Work closely with other data engineering/MLOps functions to define data models that tie together fragmented data across the entire organization. 

  • Design, implement and maintain ETL pipelines. Lead the way for the rest of the team for pipeline design and implementation best practices.

  • Comfortable deploying and maintaining models/algorithms as part of pipelines.

  • Collaborate with team-members in code reviews and critical feedback sessions to continuously improve product delivery.

  • Present findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders and wider project teams.

  • Collaborate and communicate with others to drive cross-team and cross-organization initiatives forward. Work across disciplines to recommend the best solution for the problem at hand, including data science and non-data science solutions

About you

  • Experience designing data processing systems at scale.

  • Ability to optimize data processing operations for speed and resource consumption

  • Familiarity with designing data schema/ data models

  • Continually learn new data engineering skills, techniques and tools to maximize competitive advantage; participate in internal & external technology communities.

  • Experienced with Python and SQL

  • Experienced with Cloud technology (GCP/AWS is beneficial)

  • Familiarity with Data Science processes

  • Exceptional communication skills to all levels; ability to communicate complex findings in a simple manner.

  • BSc or equivalent in computer science, engineering, applied mathematical or relevant scientific discipline.
