About us
Within Dyson Research we define what’s next and look to continually push the boundaries of what’s possible. We’re at the very start of the new product ideas chain, working to develop the technologies that enable the products.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Design Research Engineer to join the highly successful Motors and Power Systems team within the Research, Design and Development (RDD) department. Within this team the successful applicant will be working on the mechanical design of our Dyson Digital Motors (DDMs).
About the role
Responsibilities:
Deliver robust design solutions that fulfil the fundamental design requirements
Generate design requirements and identify risk areas
Develop 3D CAD and engineering drawings for motor components and assemblies, along with test rigs and assembly fixtures
Review and approve work completed by others
Understand and comply with relevant International Standards
Be responsible for delivering parts, assemblies and systems from concept to proof of principle. Lead other engineering colleagues as required to support this
Develop innovative and novel concepts with high value IP while considering freedom to operate
Be a source of engineering expertise to advise on design, development, material, manufacturing, prototype build and test issues.
Develop and mentor others within the wider team
Create new, and improve upon existing, best practices and processes within the team
As an assembly and component owner, drive the design activities to achieve the best balance between all physical disciplines, liaising with technical experts in Mechanical/Aerodynamic/Acoustic/Thermal/Electromagnetic aspects.
Own the master CAD and drawing definition.
Ensure the design conforms to best practice
