About the role
As a Lead Design Engineer within the Design Engineering function based at St James Power Station, you will be joining an innovative & dynamic team, supporting the realisation and growth of a new product category for Dyson. You will be focused on leading the planning and delivery of rig and test platforms to help the iterative development of sub-systems and full product solutions, from proof of concept to validation and verification rigs. Along with an elevated level of creative engineering excellence and attention to detail you will need to have an outstanding focus on quality and process, both the ability to adhere and the ability to define and document. Working alongside assembly and systems teams you will need to collaborate as part of a global team, engaging with our category & support teams to help define requirements and deliver solutions. You will role model the Dyson values and help create a high-performance culture.
Responsibilities include:
Working within Dyson Processes, Quality Management system, standards, and regulatory requirements such as FDA and ISO13485 etc.
Identifying, prioritising, and managing risk to deliver design engineering solutions on time, cost, and spec.
Leading robust and coherent integration of innovative technologies through collaboration with hardware, software, and sensing systems.
Applying theory, data & intuition to make sound design & engineering judgements & proposals.
Contributing to the development of the team’s capability & growth by providing constructive feedback to line-managers, as well as mentoring more junior members of the team.
About you
A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent.
In-depth experience in design engineering methods and materials within regulated product / medical device industry.
Experience in leading the planning, development and delivery of rig and test platforms for regulated products
Practical knowledge of 3D CAD, PLM systems and analysis packages.
Experience in collaborating with a team and influencing others to successfully deliver results on time.
Identification and management of requirements and specifications throughout the design process.
Knowledge and application of a systems engineering approach to design.
Ability to robustly plan, prioritise tasks and coordinate with the work of others.
A sound understanding of mechanical principles and engineering judgement to make robust design decisions.
Effective assessment and choice of appropriate methods to develop and demonstrate design intent.
Show suitable verification and validation to prove your design.
Ability to analyse and evaluate test results to drive design direction.
Excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skill.
