About the role
The Haircare team is at the heart of Dyson’s growth as a global technology company and we are looking for a Lead Design Engineer with an Electro-mechanical Integration and Verification focus to join our multi-disciplined team. Our Haircare engineering team has been the driving force behind our success with recent products such as Supersonic, Corrale & Air-wrap, joining the team will give you the opportunity to be a significant part of developing the next generation of products.
We work as a collaborative team with disciplines focused on end style performance, user experience, structural integration, airflow, heat and power delivery systems. We are solving problems for people globally and we design for a diverse range of user needs and hair types. As part of the Integration team you will be responsible for technically leading our approach to all aspects of electro-mechanical integration and verification. This includes the development of core technologies that will enable the function and performance of our next generation of Haircare products. You will be working under challenging constraints and be expected to work collaboratively with multi-disciplined teams to find routes through our most complex of challenges.
As a Lead Design Engineer within NPD Haircare, you will be joining an innovative and dynamic team in one of Dysons fastest growing categories. Working alongside a diverse global team, you will be solving problems from early concept selection, through to detailed design and product launch. You will be leading and/or own a key system or Assembly on a project. This role may also require people/line-manager responsibility.
Working alongside RDD teams to produce exciting and disruptive products on specification, cost and time.
Develop innovative & novel mechanical concepts with high value Intellectual property.
Collaborate with power systems and electronic teams to integrate motor, sensor and heater systems into our cutting-edge technologies.
Take an active, hands-on role to ensure that all engineering problems are resolved thoroughly.
Assessing technical risk, defining development plans and reporting against project delivery.
Ownership of design, build and testing of prototypes to demonstrate technologies, features and performance.
Create and perform investigative verification and validation tests throughout all development phases.
Influence technology and product development roadmaps through strategic supplier relationships.
Communicate and influence across all disciplines and levels.
Challenge and develop Dyson engineering practices to continuously improve design quality.
Qualifications & Experience
A degree in Mechanical Engineering / Design Engineering / Product Design or equivalent.
Practical knowledge of 3D CAD and simulation packages.
Experience of designing parts and assemblies for mass manufacture within an electro-mechanical environment.
Sound understanding of fundamental engineering and scientific principles.
Practical understanding of statistical analysis.
A passion for people development and coaching.
Creative problem solver with the ability to multitask in a rapidly changing environment.
A good understanding of mechanisms and awareness of the application of electrical & electronic principles.
Ability to generate and communicate ideas through a variety of media platforms.
Analytical and logical mindset with a high attention to detail.
Champion great design to produce products that meet all performance and functional requirements.
Managing, tracking and mitigating technical risk.
Plan effectively in an organised manner when working with a variety of project teams, in an often high- pressure, competitive environment.
Use advanced statistical tools & analysis software, devise lab-based measurement techniques and test methods to influence design direction.
