About us
Dyson is looking for a Lead Design Modeller to join the Global Design & Product Experience team in the UK. You will be highly knowledgeable of product model making, using, and maintaining workshop and prototyping equipment and experienced in paint colour development.
About the role
Own the look and feel of Dyson’ product models
Create and provide colour development samples
Understand Arduino and basic electronics
Operating various types of manual workshop equipment such as band saw, disk sander, pillar drill, lathe, and mill
Programming, running, and challenging the capabilities of 3 and 4 axis CNC mills, lathe, laser cutter and the latest generation of 3D printers
Ensure delivery of product models according to the established design vision
Constantly aware of the latest challenges and potential opportunities that arise in prototyping development and manufacturing
Provide Models for Design & Product Experience reviews with senior stakeholders taking place in UK
Have a keen eye for detail and achieving ‘best-in-class’ models
Utilise digital and physical tools (models, physical rigs, renderings, 2D prints) to create product models
Quickly model multiple design solutions at a very hi-resolution
Collaborate with our global network of modellers, designers, and engineers
Control prototyping resource to accurately create and communicate design solutions
About you
A degree in Model making, Industrial Design, Product Design, or equivalent
7+ years of hands-on modelling experience
4+ years of workshop management experience
Proven experience in developing visual models and prototypes
Experienced in creating risk assessments and COSHH documents
Knowledgeable operating workshop and prototyping equipment
Highly skilled in 3D CAD and CAM applications (NX, Rhino, Alias, Solidworks or similar)
Proficient in 2D design software (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design)
Excellent communicator with the ability to clearly present ideas both verbally and visually
Assertive and diplomatic – a great collaborator and receptive of constructive criticism
