About the role

The Lead Electronics Sensor Engineer role will require a highly motivated, creative, methodical and flexible person, ready to take on challenges with a pragmatic approach. You will work in multi-disciplinary global project teams to architect and develop integrated electronic sensor and actuator solutions for new and pioneering consumer appliance products within Dyson’s Floorcare category. You may also be working with Dyson’s Research in UK and New Product Innovation teams to investigate and develop novel electronics to support and realise new product ideas. You will also provide supervision and mentoring to less experienced Engineers in the team.

  • Design, model and simulate complex electronics solutions that include sensors, actuators, signal conditioning circuits and digital signal processing.

  • Lead the integration of the solutions at the system and product levels.

  • Perform and participate in design reviews, technical risk analyses, troubleshooting and investigations to proactively solve complex engineering problems.

  • Ensure design solutions meet product specifications and functional requirements (performance, reliability, DFM, cost and compliance with international regulatory standards e.g. IEC, UL and EMC)

  • Develop test methodology and conduct and drive electronics design verification and product validation.

  • Produce and peer-review detailed engineering materials including design schematics, PCB layouts, tolerance analyses, design notes, FMEA, failure analysis reports and technical review documents.

  • Liaise and collaborate with various Dyson engineering teams (Mechanical, Compliance, Reliability, Software, Manufacturing, Test, etc) across the UK and South East Asia to develop new Dyson products through to production.

  • Contribute towards electronics development process improvement activities.

  • Supervise, coach and mentor Engineers in the team.

About you

As a Lead Electronics Engineer specialising in Sensors and Actuators, you will have at least a bachelor-level degree in a discipline which contains a significant focus on Electronics Engineering. You will be capable of working with minimal oversight and assistance from senior engineering staff to generate world-class solutions within challenging project timelines. You must be able to demonstrate experience in designing high quality electronic solutions, ideally with a focus on sensors and actuators for consumer products in mass production.

  • Degree qualified in a relevant electronics or physics discipline.

  • At least minimum 5 years’ experience in developing integrated electronic solutions through multiple product development cycles.

  • Excellent knowledge of analogue and digital circuit design for sensor conditioning.

  • Experience applying digital signal processing and sampling theory.

  • Modelling and simulation skills in MATLAB, Python or similar.

  • Working knowledge of schematic capture and PCB layout software such as Mentor Graphics.

  • Experience of electronics development through multiple product development cycles.

  • Experience of DFM, DFX, and DFMEA.

  • Knowledge of home appliance safety requirements and regulatory certification at PCBA and product levels.

  • Experience in EMC/ESD troubleshooting is essential.

  • Some experience of image acquisition & processing is preferred.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to independently deliver high quality results within challenging project timelines.

  • Highly motivated and self-driven with good communication skills.

  • Possess a strong command of written and spoken English
