About the role
As a Lead Human Factors and Insights Engineer you will work within the New Product Development (NPD) Haircare Team (Validation & Voice of Customer), applying your skills and experience to invent technologies that enhance the company’s technical and user centric advantage far into the future. This role is a globally facing role, bridging the Engineering and Consumer centric expertise.
The “Voice of the Customer” is an intrinsic part of product development at Dyson, as it informs product specification and supports iterative development. The role will be focused on trying to understand individual markets and gathering feedback from consumers, while supporting the team with implementing these insights in product development. It is a people focused engineering role, so we are looking for an outwardly people focused person with excellent collaborative skill sets. As we are a global company, some of the research will be taking place in various markets around the world, so the candidate must be willing to travel.
You will play a key role in the department to build the capability in Human Factors and Insights domain:
Learn and build solid knowledge of Qualitative and Quantitative research techniques; demonstrated via project deliveries, departmental knowledge sharing and peer mentoring.
Collaborate closely with the key stakeholders including Design Managers, Claims Managers and the various Insights Teams (Mechanistic, Commercial and Quality) in developing critical to customer and consumer satisfaction requirements.
Establish robust data collection/analysis methods
Plan, design, and execute user studies independently, liaising with internal cross teams and external market research agencies, managing participants recruitment, generating trial protocol/discussion guides, and moderating the studies.
Translate the insights into clear actionable recommendations to aid with the refinement of the User Experience journey.
Report and communicate Insights effectively to all stakeholders
Map, manage, and monitor consumer satisfaction risks for each project, and drive towards the mitigations.
Identify knowledge opportunities/gaps for the project team, develop learning plan, and build strategy/timeline to achieve the desired capability/knowhow.
As a subject matter expert in Human Factors & Insights at Dyson, you will cover a broad spectrum of skills and abilities. We don’t expect you to be an incoming expert in all aspects below, however if you have an inquisitive mind-set and a willingness to learn, we will support you with training and technical development. To realise our ambitions for this role, it will be advantageous to have experience in one or more of the following skillsets:
Good knowledge of Human Factors engineering techniques, Anthropometric and Ergonomics.
Good knowledge of Usability testing/Validation techniques.
Good skill/experience in an analytical role, providing insights and recommendation based on analysis, using state of the art analytical tools and data modelling.
Good understanding of psychology, sociology and human behaviour aspect that is applicable in the product development environment.
Good problem-solving ability.
Good communication, presentation and moderation skills.
Sound understanding of core engineering processes and tools
At least a Degree in Mechanical/Human Factor Engineering or Science or equivalent.
