About the role

This position is recognized as a solid independent contributor possessing an in-depth knowledge in the field of Noise & Vibration, and looked upon by junior engineers to provide directions. This individual is expected to lead discipline team to resolve technical challenges within the project, while demonstrating effective communication skills.  It is necessary for someone in this role to be able to do the work and effectively teach what they know to other employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Holds responsibility for technical discipline for assigned project.

  • Deliverables include both experimental testing as well as simulation.

  • Deliver output in a timely manner inline with RDD Core Deliverables

  • Owns or signs-off relevant Specs/Reqts for allocated projects

  • Drive discipline team to support departmental goals and long term technology road map. Plan and manage progress of actions, in order to deliver on time.

  • Provide inputs to yearly goal setting.

  • Expected to proactively identify areas of improvement and to propose and implement improvements.

  • Actively manage lessons learnt database to ensure sharing of past learnings.

  • Take ownership of personal career development by setting out short/med/long-term plan, together with People Manager.

  • Potentially managing development plans & coaching of more junior engineers within own discipline.

  • Should ideally be at or close to Professional Accreditation (IMechE, NAFEMS).

About you

  • At least a Bachelor degree in Mechanical/Aerodynamics/Acoustic engineering or equivalent, preferred applicants to have a Master degree.

  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical product design & development in the field of noise and vibration, preferably in the consumer electrical appliance industry.

  • Indepth knowledge of acoustic engineering, mechanical vibration, signal processing, fluid dynamics and statistical analysis.

  • Indepth experience in CFD software (eg. ANSYS Fluent, Star-CCM+, OpenFoam) would be beneficial.

  • Experience on measurement hardware and software for data acquisition, such as B&K Pulse, HEAD Acoustics, MATLAB, and LabVIEW is preferred.

  • Competent in the use and application of CAD/CAE tools in general.

  • Demonstrated ability to assess multiple viewpoints/argument independently, and determine technical direction for project or specialist areas.

  • Proficient in root cause analysis techniques and able to utilize skill in project or specialist areas. Able to coach less experienced engineers.

  • Ensure cooperation and interaction across diverse stakeholders, often managing familiar and less challenging internal customers.

  • Ability to receive constructive feedback and coaching, and respond appropriately.  Able to coach less experienced engineers.

  • Generally characterized as an "Independent Contributor" with ability to discover issues and recommend solutions.

  • Able to work independently on the more varied and complex tasks and/or demonstrate functional leadership without direct supervision as needed.
