The core technologies behind many of Dyson’s revolutionary new products are delivered through the Power Electronics and Energy Storage team. The team are responsible for the hardware behind Dyson’s cutting-edge motor technology (DDM). They are also responsible for ensuring safety and delivering performance in our extremely power dense Li-Ion battery systems, powering our cord-free and robot products. About the role
The day to day responsibilities of the Lead Power Electronics Engineer involves:
Lead and manage projects to design and develop the next generation of electronics hardware for Battery Management Systems and Motor Drives.
Identify and communicate risks, and lead the design changes to mitigate them.
Mentoring of junior team members.
Device selection and characterisation for different power applications.
Creating and reviewing design documentation, test methods and validation plans.
Verifying design decisions through simulation, test and analysis of the results.
Designing for performance, cost and compliance standards.
Ensuring quality and reliability of Dyson products.
Following the full life cycle of the product development processes.
Interacting with engineers from different disciplines to ensure effective system integration and project delivery.
The projects are supported by engineers at all levels and they provide a great opportunity to develop and improve your skills and knowledge of power electronics. There is also scope to make a positive impact and contribution to a range of innovative products. You will work closely with other teams in a multidisciplinary environment to create pioneering technology
About you
A degree or equivalent in electronic engineering or comparable discipline.
Proven track record in the design and development of battery management systems, motor drives or other power electronics systems.
Experience in managing or leading projects and people.
Competence in design for thermal and EMC performance, schematic design and PCB layout.
Strong understanding of analogue circuitry and power electronic devices, including silicon based IGBTs, MOSFETs and wide bandgap technologies.
Practiced in the use of tools such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis and Fault Tree Analysis.
Experience of designing electronics to meet external approvals standards (UL/IEC).
Systematic and thorough approach to documentation.
The desire and ability to communicate complex ideas to a range of people at different levels within the business.
An active approach to generation of ideas.
Experience of designing electronics for high volume mass production.
