About us

Dyson technology wouldn’t be possible without our Dyson Digital Motors – they’re at the heart of all our machines. We’re constantly researching, investing and pushing boundaries to create ever-smaller, more powerful motors.

Being part of the team working on the Dyson Digital Motor, this role will focus on the analysis and final production design of power electronic drives, motors and control systems to ensure seamless integration into destination products.

Based in Dyson’s Singapore Advanced Manufacturing facility @West Park Bizcentral, you will the opportunity to work alongside technical specialists and highly motivated creative people, to challenge convention, develop and support unique, high technology motors from a prototype stage through to mass manufacture.

We are looking for penultimate year students, graduating by August 2023 and who would be able to commit full-time from August 2022 (minimum 12 weeks).

About the role

You’ll be assigned to a live project team putting your university learning into practice from the get go. Working as part of a larger project team, you’ll have your own set of project deliverables and the chance to take ownership of how these are achieved. Some of your tasks could include:

  • Creating and developing part of next generation of Dyson Hyperdimium Motor.

  • Taking active role and working through assigned engineering problems, presenting solutions/ideas/concepts and validation progress to key stakeholders.

  • Using established Dyson methodology, good engineering practice & discipline to deliver and validate robust solutions in agreed timeframe.

  • Performing hands-on approach in motor build prototyping and measurement, including designing required jig and fixture setup.

  • Liaising with our In-house Manufacturing Team for engineering evaluations or special builds in support of productivity/quality improvement projects or cost reduction initiatives such as alternative parts/suppliers, engineering redesign, etc.

​We’ll support you with a development framework designed to help you make the most of your internship.

About you

Our internships are competitive and delivering the next generation of Dyson technology is tough, so you’ll need to:

  • On track for 2nd upper class honours or above and be studying towards a Mechanical/Design/Aeronautical/Material/Chemical Engineering degree

  • Able to commit full-time for at least 12 weeks

  • Graduating in Q3 2023

  • Sound understanding of basic mechanics & mechanical principles, manufacturing, GD&T application and interpretation, tolerance stack analysis, and precision measurement systems/methods

  • A well-rounded mix of experimental, theoretical and design skills. Aptitude in hands-on prototype lab work, including but not limited to test, assembly & measurement jig design

  • Strong trouble-shooter, demonstrate a thorough approach to reasoning and problem solving, and a desire to develop their design and development skills

  • Comfortable to work and collaborate with different teams across different geographical location with different time zone

  • Team player & self-starter, good at communicating at all levels

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (preferably Unigraphics), with other tools such as PLM and Minitab is an advantage
