To provide analytical insight and direction based on sound structural, mechanical, and physical interpretation of data and resolution of problems faced by our design team.
You will be able to prove you have the ability to drive designs forward based on sound engineering knowledge and to ensure correct decisions are taken at all stages of the design process.
Working within a small team of like-minded engineering problem solvers, you will be responsible for the integration of commercially sourced motors into the product ecosystem, by providing the relevant mechanical, electrical, dynamics, thermal understanding and insight, ultimately providing brilliant products to the business.
About the role
- Delivery of concise accurate results - these maybe as a result of a computational simulation, a hand calculation or an experimental test.
- Articulating data either in report form or as a presentation is another important part of this role as your work will be steering designs and informing cross functional decisions within the team.
- Liaise with external suppliers and third parties on Dyson's product requirements, ensuring smooth communication throughout the partnership.
A first degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering BEng. or MEng
Experience in an engineering company or consultancy, this vacancy would suit someone looking for their second or third position post-graduation. For a senior applicant we would expect at least 5 years experience
A good working knowledge of the fundamentals of electromagnetic machine operation
Practical and laboratory skills with confidence in testing of motors and associated power systems
An appreciation of motor control techniques for low and high speed, single-phase and multi-phase permanent magnet and stepper motors
Appreciation of other engineering disciplines such as aerodynamics, thermodynamics, CFD analysis, electrical and electronic systems, and material science
Expert working knowledge of analytical and computational techniques, including Finite Element Analysis (ideally Ansys) for structural, vibratory, thermal and shock load considerations
A highly driven individual who strives for accurate results in every aspect of your work
The proven ability to work as part of a team or un-supervised to an agreed goal or set of deliverables is imperative
Proficiency in a third language e.g. Japanese/Vietnamese/Mandarin would be advantageous
