About the role 

The Prototyping department is offering an exciting opportunity to join the team as part of a brand-new Apprenticeship programme in Advanced Engineering, leading to Product Design and Development Technician roles with a specialisation in Model Making.  

The Advanced Engineering apprenticeship (level 3 and level 4 HNC) is designed to bring together all aspects of engineering, prototyping, machining, manufacturing, and model making under one umbrella. There is a possibility to extend to a HND if wanted.  

After learning the basic and fundamental skills in an approved College on Year 1 (Electronics, Milling, Turning, Hand Fitting, Health and Safety etc.), you will fully integrate the Product Prototyping Team in Dyson to learn a very wide range of processes and techniques, going from CAD drawing to Additive Manufacturing technologies and Model Making skills, including Part Finishing, Vac Casting, Spray Painting etc.  

As part of the team, you will work on live projects, and provided the chance to understand the industry functions and requirements at all levels. Your main role will be to produce product prototype parts requested by the engineers using different techniques, and to ensure the parts will meet all the design and function requirements.  You should be prepared to spend a large part of your working day on your feet and potentially doing repetitive tasks. 

About you  

• Good eye for detail 

• Manual dexterity 

• Strong team working skills 

• Minimum of 4 GCSEs at A*-C including English, Mathematics 

• Minimum of 2 A Levels or equivalent.
