About the role
The success of Dyson’s Hair Care category has led to the need to expand our generation of ideas and new technologies. As a result the Research team is expanding its hair care team and focussing on the next tranche of innovation across all aspects of hair care routines like never before. We are looking for a Hair Care Research Manager to lead a growing team and spearhead the development of the category capability, understanding, technology and delivery.
The successful candidate will drive research projects from initial conception, through to full integration into new product prototypes. As a Research Manager, the successful candidate will be expected to line manage a cross functional team of engineers, chemists, and technicians. Mentoring and technically guiding team members and junior managers will be a key part of the role.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Lead and deliver product-focused technology projects to the Dyson range plan.
Own the technology roadmap and strategy for Hair Care Research at Dyson.
Generate intellectual property for Dyson.
Manage a cross functional team of engineers, chemists and technicians.
Collaborate with team members to generate innovative concepts for new technologies.
Analyse test results, summarise findings and communicate these to the highest levels at Dyson
Liaise with development teams to ensure effective transfer of technology into future product range.
Identify potential research areas which would benefit from new technology development
About you
Experience of leading teams to successfully develop technology from concept to deployment
Strong people focus with track record of facilitating personal development and growth within your team
Superb communication and presentation skills. Able to translate and communicate technical information to project/research teams, managers, directors and Sir James Dyson.
Strong degree in engineering or a related discipline to postgraduate level or equivalent industrial experience
Have an understanding of core engineering test procedures and equipment. Able to specify experimental programmes and effectively analyse results, summarise findings and make recommendations.
Knowledge of haircare or personal care categories
Good analytical and problem-solving ability, capable of logically assessing technologies using a variety of methods
Persistent nature and an inquisitive attitude
Good organisational skills - able to plan-ahead and to prioritise tasks and co-ordinate with the work of others
