About us

This is a fantastic opportunity for an acoustics engineer to work within a team of like-minded problem solvers within our Technology Development function for an exciting new category of products. The successful candidate will apply their skills and experience in acoustics and vibration to manage key product specifications.  

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the Noise and Vibration Engineer will act as a technical leader, working on projects at all stages of the product life cycle. They will carry out experimental investigations and computer simulations to identify and characterise the key noise sources and transfer paths of our products and provide effective solutions to improve these in novel, exciting products. 

About the role

  • To investigate and solve noise and vibration problems using experiments, simulations and hand calculations, as appropriate. 
  • To perform said experiments and simulations. 
  • To analyse, summarise and communicate findings to other members of RDD, including senior management.
  • To liaise with development teams to ensure an effective transfer of technology into our product range across the Dyson world.
  • To support the growth and upkeep of the team’s test and simulation capabilities and wider business objectives.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels, including the relevant technical teams overseas.

About you

  • A first degree in Mechanical Engineering or Acoustics. Applicants holding post-graduate qualifications are also welcome.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a technical analysis/consultant capacity for said function. Experience in a product development environment for consumer electronics would be a bonus but, not essential. 
  • Sound technical knowledge of acoustics and vibration theory and its application to real-world problems.
  • A good understanding of experimental and simulation techniques, particularly with regards to identifying noise sources and transfer paths.
  • Hands-on experience with noise and vibration measurement hardware and software for data acquisition, signal processing and post-processing.
  • A working knowledge of MATLAB, Labview, COMSOL and Simscape preferred, but not essential 
  • Results oriented and a clear logical thinker with good attention to detail.
  • A proven ability to work as part of a team or un-supervised to an agreed goal or set of deliverables.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
