The Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology’s mission is to become the best engineering university in the world. As Operations Manager, you’ll need to be hands on in defining and implementing the operational processes and systems for our rapidly growing team. You’ll work across the team supporting in various areas, including our new Undergraduate accommodation.
You will be responsible for managing our day-to-day business operations in both a fast paced and evolving environment. Your role will be key in ensuring that The Dyson Institute transitions smoothly into its new role as a higher education provider that develops the engineering leaders of the future. The Dyson Village opened late-2018 and provides accommodation for our first year Undergraduates.


What you'll be doing 

Operations Support

  • Support business as usual (BAU) activities for The Dyson Institute team as required (this is wide-ranging from ensuring our website is up to date to facilitating the set-up of new vendor contracts)
  • Resolve ad-hoc issues relating to BAU from across the team, wider Dyson and Undergraduates
  • Ensure we have a smooth-running working environment that boosts productivity and efficiency of the team
  • Manage and deliver all  events

Process Management

  • Understand existing internal processes and navigate through these to quickly manage requests
  • Identify any missing or additional processes, then define and implement where possible
  • Ensure the team are well-versed in any processes by offering training/knowledge sharing and ongoing support
  • Review the efficiency of existing business procedures and apply process improvements and new initiatives, to drive a culture of continuous improvement
  • Define and implement a new information management system for our growing team, reviewing regularly to ensure this have been implemented effectively and consistently

Relationship Management

  • Be the key operations point of contract for wider Dyson teams (including Estates, IT, Finance, Legal, Creative and Comms) and support in managing the relationship with these teams
  • Support with process management (as above) with wider Dyson teams to help define service requirements
  • Ensure that stakeholders have all they need, monitor progress of tasks/activity to ensure these happen on time and to the highest standard
  • Manage queries from Dyson Institute team members to the aforementioned teams, track their progress, and support as required
  • Work with the Dyson Village team to provide a 5* accommodation experience and support the continuous improvement of the Undergraduates’ living experience at the Dyson Village
  • Manage contracts and relationships with external partners and suppliers to ensure that tasks are delivered on time and to the highest standard 


What we'd like to see from you 

  • Previous experience in an operations/project management setting is ideal 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and experience working in cross-functional teams
  • Impeccable time-management and organisational skills
  • Highly motivated and confident working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience of defining, implementing and managing systems that support business operations within a start-up or agile company
  • Experience of identifying and implementing process improvements
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and adaptable to meet changing requirements
  • Able to effectively manage multiple deliverables and deadlines in parallel
