Global Electronics Hardware in RDD are at the core of electronics development & product delivery, and as the company has grown and diversified an opportunity has opened for a motivated PCB engineer to join the busy PCB Engineering Group.

About the role

Reporting to the SEA PCB Manager, you will be part of a busy team and design work will encompass everything from early conceptual prototypes to mass production design. It’s a demanding role and the successful candidate will be a motivated design engineer, with demonstrable knowledge and track record in PCB design.

At Dyson, the emphasis is to engineer PCBA designs as a part of the product in order to consistently deliver high-quality solutions; engagement with this approach is key element of the role.

  • PCB Design encompassing the skills & experience requirements listed below
  • Collaborate with project teams to help generate a specification for each design.
  • Help identify the best PCB technologies and practices to suit the requirements of each project.
  • Help identify PCB engineering problems and facilitate effective solutions generation through a methodical and structured approach.
  • Challenge & develop Dyson engineering practices to continuously improve product quality & delivery.
  • Consistently apply BiC (best-in-class) design principles.
  • Proactive support to DfX and CAD optimisation teams.
  • Support consistent working practices & process adoption as part of a global team approach.

About you

  • BEng degree in Electronic Engineering, or other relevant discipline, with a demonstrable level of industrial experience in a relevant industry.
  • PCB technologies include single sided, double sided & multilayer.
  • Good level of technologies experienced, e.g. analogue, digital, RF, some High Speed, etc.
  • Design for high volume an advantage, applying an embedded DFM approach & principles.
  • Demonstrable high level of CAD experience and proficiency - expertise in Siemens EDA (Mentor) Xpedition Enterprise tools or Valor would be ideal.
  • Understanding of Product Life Management (PLM) systems, complex PCB technologies, e.g. Flex technologies, and HDI
  • Knowledge of circuit technologies including high power density, analogue, digital, RF, High Speed & PSU’s
  • Ability to design for Mains potential voltage, ensuring design compliance to safety requirements
  • Design for EMC
  • Current carrying up to 40A, thermal management and power density
  • Knowledge of Hyperlynx or Flotherm and of EDM
  • Working knowledge of relevant IPC standards
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Methodical & organised approach with attention to detail & accuracy
  • Self-motivated, with a strong focus on results
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
