Procurement Category Manager - HR

About the role

Supporting the Senior Category Manager (SCM) in creating the HR category strategy, you take ownership of the relevant sub-categories. You will be creating and reviewing robust and forward-looking plans that use the full range of supply and demand-side levers along with the execution of these plans and the achievement of savings. You will also be:

  • Driving business outcomes and behaviours with subject matter expertise to deliver value through the category planning lifecycle.

  • Constantly monitoring the supplier market and identify opportunities resulting from new product offerings and/or market shifts (e.g. entry or exit of suppliers, changes in pricing, risk on category).

  • Seeking alternatives to current category specifications and demand parameters.

  • Continually monitoring compliance across the indirect spend and driving corrective action as necessary.

  • Developing a supply base to build the capacity and capability to deliver the business’ requirements.

  • Supporting the SCM in influencing policy thinking, provide timely responses to audit reports and report category costs as appropriate.

  • Supporting supplier relationship management in the classification of new suppliers to determine the most appropriate SRM treatment and delivering sourcing projects.

  • Delivering a pipeline of projects to achieve or exceed agreed savings target for the category.

  • Work with the SCM to prioritise and schedule all strategic sourcing initiatives for the year, in alignment with business milestones.

  • Embed best practices and compliance to the operating model.

  • Continually reassess the operational risks associated with the sub-categories, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management changes, and the impact of new technology.

About you

As an experienced Procurement Category Manager, you will have worked within a business partnering role within a complex and diverse business environment. You will ideally have specific experience working within an indirect procurement category, potentially but not essential would be HR category experience. You will have managed a relevant sub-category through the whole life cycle, from strategy creation through procurement to supplier management, along with:

  • Confidence and credibility with good communication and relationship management skills with the ability to engage and influence middle to senior level stakeholders.

  • Commercially astute and with a strong eye for detail.

  • A driven self-starter, who can work autonomously and as part of a small team. 

  • An advanced Diploma in Procurement and Supply with clear route to advancement towards MCIPS, Bachelors Degree or equivalent.

  • Experience of ARIBA or similar e-procurement / supply chain system 

  • Identifies and raises opportunities and/or challenges.

  • Takes action to simplify complexity.

  • Proven ability to solve problems and to influence decision making.

  • Strong negotiation skills.

  • Self-aware, knows own strengths and limitations.

  • Prepared to travel as necessary/appropriate in the performance of duties.
