The Dyson Institute was the first Institution in England to be granted New Degree Awarding Powers under the Higher Education and Research Act. In September 2021 we welcomed our first independent Cohort of learners.
These talented individuals are our fifth cohort of Undergraduates with The Institute having been founded initially with a partnership with Warwick Manufacturing Group, University of Warwick as the Degree Awarding Institution.
As we continue to consolidate our independent delivery and develop our five-year Strategic Plan we are looking for a driven and experienced people manager, with significant experience from the Higher Education sector to join us and cement the professional delivery of our programme.
About the Role
This is a role like no other in Dyson and as such requires a flexible mindset and strong interpersonal skills. The Project Manager will report to the Senior Projects and Operations Manager, an already established function which manages the delivery of the institutes business-as-usual activities and change management projects.
This is a challenging role, with a broad portfolio of projects, examples of which are, Managing the Student Induction, Recruitment and Admissions, Staff training and Student Support. Key to this is sharing one’s knowledge of Project Management embedding the principles to all works at the institute.
Coordinate agreed deliverables/activities for a project.
Use established principles, methods, systems and business processes to support the delivery of project and/or functional objectives.
Manage progress, analyse, collate & report project data
Prepare and present reports to escalate issues and enable management decision making
Application of governance policies, chair meetings and reviews to evaluate progress and ensure risk and issues are identified and managed accordingly
Manage cross team communication to ensure stakeholders are aligned and deliverables and dependencies are clearly understood
Co-ordinates cross-functional project activity, continuous improvement initiatives and team development activities.
Promotes PM principals and best practice in all aspects of work.
Experience of working in the HE or FE sectors
Experience managing multiple projects and teams (matrix environment) simultaneously ensuring the team remain motivated and focussed.
Proven delivery of medium and high complexity projects on time, budget and to the right quality standards.
Experience working with outsource service providers – both in setting up new services and in service transition
Strong communication skills with an ability to build relationships at all levels of the organisation.
A solution focussed approach to your projects – able to breakdown complex information and put together pragmatic solutions to any challenges.
Ability to multi-task in a high paced and often ambiguous environment where a solution may not be immediately visible and priorities can change quickly.
Strong attention to detail where it’s needed, and the ability to step back where it is not.
The ability to scope, define and deliver changes to existing processes and ways of working.
A creative side – the ability to find a solution to any challenge presented.
Experience working within both waterfall and agile methodologies.
