About the role

  • The Prototyping Technician Lead will be based in our Development Centre in Johor, Malaysia.

  • Translating theoretical complex product and designs into physical processes and prototyping concepts together with RDD Engineers and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Early identification of potential bottlenecks and recommending alternatives according to feasibility of making and testing first prototype and manufacturability of the design

  • Developing and creating the prototyping process either by parts, tools, processes or measurements sets. This is either executed by the Prototype Engineer or outsourced to expert colleagues.

  • Collaborating with the RDD, and other prototyping operations – machine shop, rapid prototyping, vacuum casting, filter prototyping etc. to create the prototypes.

  • Instructing or training Proto-lab Operators and analysing proto production issues, focusing on early assessment of potential manufacturing problems in the future mass production phase.

  • Recommend improvement of quality of products and processes by e.g. proposing better/simpler alternatives.

  • Handle critical product and process parameters which are also recorded in the so-called process requirements.

  • Advising on solutions to issues and problems that arise in new products and processes.

  • Taking (potentially a big) part of the responsibility for a certain process or equipment.

  • Making part of prototypes or the entire prototypes.

  • Supporting and advising the development of products and modifications.

  • Support and carry out inventory control at your area.

  • Work with minimum supervision, provide daily job progress and report status to line manager.

  • Carry out the schedule waste procedures.

  • Compliance with safety regulations that apply to the machines and work environment.

  • Compliance with policies and procedures within the framework of the company.

About you

  • Candidate must possess at least higher diploma or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Manufacturing / Process Engineering or any related discipline.

  • 2-5 years of working experience in micro mechanical or prototyping environment.

  • Project management skills, to manage, schedule, and track multiple prototype production and processes simultaneously to meet time plan.

  • Experience in using O365 – Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams.

  • Detail-oriented.

  • Good hand and eye coordination required to perform detailed work.

  • Excellent communication skills and experience in engaging with stakeholders of varied seniority.

  • Ability to translate a technical idea into a practical approach.

  • Extended knowledge of 3D, CAD design (Siemens NX).

  • Extended knowledge of measurement equipment and methods.

  • The ability to work safely around chemicals and equipment.

  • Understanding plastic / metal part design and process.

  • Able to cope with the physical demands of the job.

  • No allergies related to dust, solvents or paints.

  • Normal colour vision and good eye coordination to perform details work.

  • No chest complaints.

  • Fine motor coordination abilities.

  • Quality Awareness.

  • Supportive attitude.
