About the role

The Design Engineering Quality Manager (ES) role is specific to managing the design quality of Lithium-ion (Li-ion) cell being designed and developed by Dyson. Reporting to the relevant Head of Quality, this role is responsible in ensuring delivery of safe and reliable battery cells into consumers’ hands. This role requires engagement with Design, Engineering, Operations and potentially Commercial teams. The role includes supporting and assuring our Li-ion raw material suppliers conform to our exacting quality standards. Extensive knowledge and experience of Li-ion cell design, development and associated critical-to quality activity is an essential part of this role.

  • Act as a quality subject matter expert in Dyson cells, providing guidance and support to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Work alongside a team of engineers and scientists in designing, optimizing, and validating next generation cells.

  • Activities include involvement in cell architecture design and modeling, test optimization and validation and failure analysis, safety testing, and proactive feedback of product-related insights from cell data to the rest of the team.

  • Represent quality in ensuring robust flow down of product requirements and assessed via the risk management tool such as DFMEA and Fault Trees.

  • Involvement in assessments of Design Verification Methods, test cases and validation criteria to test coverage of system/ sub-system and component requirements.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal departments to identify gaps and risks in the design and validation of the components and work with the relevant teams to close gaps and achieve compliance.

  • Assist in development and identification of knowledge documents pertaining to design & development processes to be tracked and reported against.

  • Develop relevant metrics to be tracked during the different phases of the project.

  • Track and report progress and the health metric of the project.

  • Influence process quality and ensure lessons for manufacturing design are disseminated (Design for Manufacture) and implemented.

  • Stay ahead of the lithium battery cell engineering literatures and proactively disseminate critical information company-wide.

  • Assume other duties as assigned.

About you

  • Extensive experience in Quality and/or Engineering Function in the RDD of Lithium-ion (Li-ion) Cells.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Self-initiator, motivated and able to perform under pressure.

  • Confident to influence and present to senior positions in the company.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.

  • Willingness to challenge the status quo and relentlessly drive improvements.

  • Experience working on quality matters in design engineering.

  • Experienced practitioner of relevant tools and methodologies, such as: FMEAs, Statistical Process Control, 6 sigma certifications, Project Management, etc.

  • Sound knowledge in ISO 9001/IATF 16949/ VDA6.3.

  • <10% travel required.
