Key responsibilities:

You will lead a team of world-class experts in the field of aerodynamics and turbomachinery. Your role will be to help form future technology roadmaps through disruptive and pioneering research. You will take accountability for delivery of core technologies as well as support product innovation with extensive experience within your field. You will be regarded as an expert in your field and a role model collaborator who fosters a growth mindset within the team, constantly learning and supporting the development of those around you.

You will: 
  • Scope, initiate and deliver product focused aerodynamic and turbomachinery technology projects to the Dyson range plan by empowering your technical team
  • With the support of Project Managers, coordinate complex technical projects requiring multidisciplinary and multi-physics approach
  • Analyse results, summarise findings and communicate these to senior management and executive leadership.
  • Liaise with development teams to ensure effective transfer of technology into future product range 
  • Identify potential research areas which would benefit from new technology development. 
  • Present concepts to Senior Management (including James Dyson) when required 
  • Responsible for leadership of the team, ensuring deliverables are met to a high standard and that the team and individuals capability are aligned to business requirements 
  • Liaise with other stakeholders within Dyson to deliver products in line with the roadmap and strategy 
  • Be hands-on within your team to enable them to successfully deliver in line with the agreed roadmap 
  • Day to day line management of your team; driving a highly effective team through coaching, mentoring and training
  • Own and drive projects across the teams at Dyson 
  • Provide input into the generation of the Environmental Control roadmap and strategy 

About you

  • The ability to provide technical support and direction to project teams 
  • Excellent analytical ability and attention to detail
  • Significant experience in turbomachinery design and delivery.
  • Extensive experience of CFD and aerodynamic experimental techniques required.
  • Experience in acoustics simulation and experimental methods highly desirable.
  • Good interpersonal communication, leadership and team working skills, to work in close collaboration with and influence project development teams 
  • Ability to communicate appropriate, concise and accurate information in written and verbal format to Senior Management and the team you’re managing 
  • Inquisitive and challenging nature - be prepared to constructively challenge others in order to fully understand an issue or situation. Not accepting assumptions at face value. Willing to challenge the status quo in order to realise benefits
  • To be able to multi-task and plan effectively when working with a variety of project teams
