Retail Operations Manager/Senior Manager - APAC

Our role is to excite customers and bring them to our retail spaces, after which we can showcase the Dyson technology in a retail setting that delights and encourages them to get hands on with our products. In physical retail, our activity is divided between two main areas: Direct and Indirect, with the Indirect pillar being predominantly wholesale. In APAC we have more than 100 Direct doors, and over 4000 Indirect doors.  

With an estate of this size that continues to grow, operational efficiency and excellence is paramount, not only to our customer and staff experience, but to our long-term profitability.  

The Retail Operations Manager will act as the lead contact for each APAC market on how to optimally operate our stores. The successful candidate will be required to dive into the detail of daily trading, as well as working between our Global and our regional market teams on longer term, strategic developments that require seamless integration into our Demo spaces. The role will focus on our Direct retail estate (Flagships, Boutiques, Owner Centres, Outlets, Distributor-run Partner Stores, and Mall Demo Zones) but will also develop to embed operational excellence into the day-to-day thinking of our third party estate.  

The role of Retail Operations Manager will sit within our APAC Retail function, and will work closely with our APAC markets, SG-based Global Retail Operations team, APAC Retail Design team, and cross functional stakeholders including IT, Procurement, Security, and H&S. 

About the Role

Roles and Responsibilities:  

Operational Excellence 

  • Ensure and implement operations excellence across APAC in line with Dyson’s global retail standards; champion the voices of the APAC markets and empower them for further success 
  • Implement services that optimise the customer experience in line with Dyson compliance and lead the upcoming in-store operational changes driven by the retail systems revamp e.g. next day delivery, collection from store, virtual queuing driven by omni-channel implementation. 
  • Localise operational processes for the APAC region; in partnership with key stakeholders, roll out the blueprint and adapt SOP's to each market to ensure that retail operations and long-term developments are seamlessly integrated and shared across all functions. 
  • Be responsible for operational compliance for each market in areas including risk management, physical security, cash controls & banking, H&S, inventory management, audit readiness, staff rostering optimization, IT infrastructure, and collection of retail metrics. Promote a process driven culture aiming to make all stores compliant; conduct internal audits, business continuity plans and H&S risk assessments. 
  • Ensure direct retail readiness for each market for NPD (New Products) roll outs and new store openings

Retail Innovation 

  • As an instrumental member of the APAC retail team, spearhead in defining the retail strategies by identifying new opportunities and applying key takeaways from ongoing new initiatives in the region - both in ways that are applicable, relevant, and beneficial to each market 
  • Work closely with the Regional Retail Implementation Manager devising strategies that continuously improve store builds and store opening plans. 
  • Partner with Retail Design, training, and marketing to deliver new store initiatives that are operationally fit for purpose, and for test-and-learn. 

Operations APAC Community 

  • Build a regional retail operations community / forum for retail leads to regularly share key topics including new initiatives (e.g. pop ups, events, extended services), their best practices, opportunities and challenges which will elevate APAC’s operational excellence as a whole.  
  • Be the lead contact for each APAC market on how stores operate: this includes training of store teams on operational procedures, compliance mechanisms and the roll out of new store services. 

Operations supplier management 

  • Manage the supplier relationships (in terms of cost, performance, implementation etc.) for Dyson’s outsourced retail services to ensure smooth operations in APAC stores, while simultaneously working closely with the respective internal teams (i.e. Accounts Payables, operational leads for each market etc.) 

About You

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:  

  • +5 years retail operations or store management experience in the APAC region for a similarly dynamic, international and complex organisation.  
  • Background in Retail Operations is highly preferred. 
  • Comprehensive understanding of premium retail experience and evolving shopper expectations.  
  • Good understanding of IT systems & payment processes.  
  • Comprehensive understanding of premium retail experience and evolving shopper expectations.  
  • Demonstrable experience implementing large scale change / transformational projects.  
  • Experienced managing stakeholders across divisions and hierarchies. 
  • Excellent communicator with clinical written and verbal presentation skills.  


  • Be passionate about retail: champion the shopper mindset. 
  • Highly collaborative; a strong listener with an ability to listen to many different inputs and translate them into appropriate solutions. A team player that values the voices of all.  
  • Able to breakdown complex, technical subject matter into digestible, bite-size chunks for non-experts. 
  • Proactive work ethic, with a passion for Retail and physical marketing experiences 
  • Highly collaborative with an ability to consolidate needs and translate into effective solutions 
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity.  
  • Articulate with strong communication, presentation and people skills; stakeholder management is essential.
