About the role
We are looking for a Robotics Lead Project Manager to join our robotics New Product Development team and take accountability for a new product development project, covering product, business, schedule and budget objectives. The focus will at all times be on controlling risk, issues and opportunities against the project success criteria. Accordingly establishing project structures and their integration and maintaining cohesion will be a cornerstone of the role. New product development starts with the Research and New Product Innovation teams, maturing the product concept to an agreed product vision and agreed business proposition. Accordingly, the lead project manager will develop an understanding with the Research and New Product Innovation teams and play a key role in identifying and implementing the handshake between New Production Innovation effort and the subsequent New Product Development delivery project.
This role is based in the UK and is on-site.
The robotics development lead project manager role is with the robotics Category, embedded within Dyson’s wider product development organisation. Reporting into the Head of Robot Category, the role entails working with functional teams in different international locations spanning the design and development, manufacturing engineering, operations and commercial functions to develop new Dyson products from initial concept to a developed design to be transitioned to SEA ahead of production development.
We will look to you to:
Lead, in close collaboration with the Design Manager and the cross-functional Project Team to deliver and assure the robot development project to its success criteria,
Drive progress and analyse, integrate & report project status, including critical path, schedule assumptions and schedule risks and their impact and management,
Own project communications and engage and inform key stakeholders outside of the project team.
And therefore, expect you to:
Lead, inspire, empower and enable the Project Team and supporting cross-functional teams, to collaborate in pursuit of project delivery,
Utilise appropriate governance, systems, processes and resources to assure project delivery. This will include identifying, managing and mitigating the project’s risk and issues, and agreeing accountabilities and responsibilities with the wider project team. And defining, assessing and tracking the impact of change,
Build stakeholder relationships with the Research and New Product Innovation teams enabling a successful handover to New Product Development,
Build stakeholder relationships with senior engineering and technical leads,
Build stakeholder relationships with the New Product Development teams in SEA enabling a successful handover for the final pre-manufacturing project stages,
Apply core PM capability to fully identify all project work, their interdependencies and create and maintain a multi-level integrated project schedule and facilitate collaborative and aligned working between functional teams to enable coordinated progress and timely decision making,
Apply core PM capability to be the initiator and custodian of integrated schedule, risk, and change management to the project success criteria. And take an active, hands-on role to support the identification and resolution of risks or conflicts to project success criteria,
Apply PM capability in purposeful, flexible and innovative ways in response to a dynamic delivery environment,
Capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement initiatives and development of PM capability,
Promote PM principles and best practices in all aspects of work and act as mentor to other team members where appropriate.
You are energetic, curious and enthusiastic, confident yet humble, and are inspired by robotics product development.
You have a degree qualification in an engineering discipline or a well-motivated equivalent.
In depth knowledge of Project Management fundamentals – qualified, APM/PMI is preferred.
You have an understanding of electronics hardware and software development methodologies and some hands-on experience.
You have an understanding of Systems Engineering methodologies and some hands-on experience.
You are a clear and consistent communicator, and have influencing and relationship building skills, you can listen carefully, and articulate complex issues concisely and accurately.
You have an analytical and querying mind-set, pay attention to detail and the ability to challenge assumptions and convention.
You have experience delivering projects in an engineering environment.
You have an understanding of Agile project management methodologies.
You have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Microsoft Project.
You have experience with proven ability to manage and deliver complex tasks in a fast moving and dynamic environment.
You are self-motivated as well as a team player and are able to resolve conflict, inspire others and mentor peers.
You have experience of applying business processes and project governance methods.
