We are looking for people to help us investigate robust solutions to diverse real-world problems in machine perception, actuation, and intelligence. The role involves the research and development of systems for Dyson’s future autonomous and intelligent products. Successful candidates will be working in a supportive environment within a team of experts that is constantly aiming to improve itself and the world of robotics.
About the role
As a mechanical engineer, you will join our ambitious and growing team, to deliver challenging products in consumer robotics. The team joins mechanical, electrical, electromagnetic, control, software, and manufacturing engineering disciplines in a highly collaborative mindset.
Design mechatronic sub-systems and optimise structures for mass, stiffness, and manufacturing
Validate the design through appropriate calculations or simulation models
Produce the necessary documents such as GD&T drawings or process descriptions to manufacture prototypes and review metrology reports
Assemble prototypes and evaluate them against the initial requirements
Support the design with experiments, measurements, and results evaluation
Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of subject matter experts to create a cohesive and balanced product
Degree in Mechanical Engineering & Design, Robotics, Mechatronics, or comparable industry experience
Solid bases in theoretical mechanics, mechanical design, materials science, and assembly methods
Proficiency in designing parts and complex assemblies using 3D modelling software (NX preferred)
Experience drafting engineering drawings and conducting tolerance stack- up analysis
Knowledge in low volume / prototype processes & manufacturing expertise (composites, subtractive, forming, additive, precision machining)
Practical design expertise and skills with tolerance/sensitivity analysis
Hands-on expertise in electro-mechanical actuators, sensors, or mobile robotic platforms
Knowledge in simulation & optimisation for a model-based design approach: FEA, simulation, topology optimisation (Ansys APDL preferred)
Knowledge in systems engineering (using Model-Based Systems Engineering, to create product architectures)
Experience in robotics and precision machinery
Knowledge in kinematics and multi-body system modelling
Some understanding and familiarity of control engineering and electronics
MATLAB, Simulink or equivalent tools
The ideal candidate is both creative in dreaming up concepts and rigorous in implementing and validating them.
You are a data driven individual with enough curiosity to study and experiment unusual solutions. You are ready to take on challenges, to learn and try innovative approaches tools and methods, from concept to integrated prototype.
