About the role
The Senior Aerodynamics Research Engineer will be part of a multi-discipline research and engineering team and will have responsibility for the aerodynamic design, analysis and measurement of the air flow systems in our next generation of Dyson products.
Working on the next generation of Dyson fans, heaters, air purifiers, hair stylers and new product concepts, the Senior Aerodynamics Research Engineer will be expected to independently execute aerodynamic work packages. This includes performing design, test and analysis tasks, and exploring new technologies and techniques that push the boundaries of Dyson product performance.
Design and optimise air flow systems for novel products considering, component aerodynamic and aeroacoustic performance, system integration opportunities and readiness for mass manufacture.
Execute research to extend our knowledge of the owner experience of airflow from our products.
Develop new design methodologies in the discipline of aerodynamics and aeroacoustics.
Explore new performance enhancing technologies utilising a variety of experimental and numerical simulation platforms.
Incorporate new analysis methodologies into CFD workflows.
Conduct aerodynamic tests and analyse results, summarise findings and communicate to other members of RDD including senior managers and directors and James Dyson.
Develop accurate, in depth, experimental techniques to verify performance and to investigate relevant details of the flow field.
Liaise with development teams to ensure effective transfer of expert knowledge and technology into future product range.
A good first degree or higher in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering (other relevant engineering or scientific disciplines will be considered).
An excellent working knowledge of fundamental fluid dynamics.
Experience of aerodynamic component design using a recognised design and analysis toolset (Fluent; CFX etc.)
The ability to work independently on aerodynamic design tasks.
Experience in automation of design and CFD analysis tasks, numerical optimization and DOE techniques.
Knowledge in design of parts for mass manufacture would be an advantage.
Experience in the design of aerodynamic test rigs and experience in the experimental characterization of aerodynamic components would be an advantage.
Ability to communicate appropriate, concise and accurate information in written and verbal format.
Ability to adapt or generate imaginative and innovative ideas, in line with core Dyson values.
To be able to multi-task and plan effectively when working with a variety of project teams in an often fast-paced, environment.
