About the role
Due to a significant expansion in activities, the Global Power Electronics & Energy Storage Development Team is looking increase our headcount of Specialist Engineering Technicians to support our multidisciplinary activities.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work across different product categories and with teams from a range of engineering disciplines (Power Electronics, Electronics, Mechanical & Product Design).
On a regular basis you would be expected to demonstrate the following capabilities and take part in and/or lead the following activities:
Assembly of prototype lithium-ion battery packs and battery pack test units with and without PCBAs
Assembly of prototype battery powered products
Use of CAD to create designs and drawings for new test rigs and fixtures (Siemens NX or similar experience not essential, but is preferred)
Manufacture low volume / one off test rigs using a variety of hands-on fabrication techniques.
Conduct cell, battery and product level testing (standard conditions and abusive conditions)
Assist Lab Owners with day-to-day running of the labs; maintain safe and tidy workplaces to 5S standards
Take responsibility for maintaining stocks of electronic components and parts to support battery pack builds
Create and maintain detailed work instructions and build documentation
Take a proactive approach to all lab work and champion continuous improvement activities through to completion.
About you
Ideally you would have proven experience with many of the following activities, although we are also open to applicants without direct experience with batteries, but who can fulfil many other aspects of the role. Relevant training for battery specific activities would then be provided.
Experience with battery packs
Practical experience of preparing test rigs and wire harnesses
Soldering experience & PCB assembly; rework and re-soldering
Ability to understand electronic / electrical schematics and diagrams
Knowledge of test equipment (multi-meter, oscilloscopes, data logging, etc)
Methodical approach to record keeping
Good organisational and time management skills
Strong problem-solving skills exemplified by the ability to diagnose and rectify problems
Good written and verbal communication
Previous experience of working in a laboratory environment
Self-motivated to meet objectives; must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work both alone and in teams as required
Good knowledge of modern rapid prototyping techniques – SLS, SLA, FDM, EDM, DLP, CNC/CAM etc
Strong practical skills and experience using traditional workshop equipment
