About the role
Dyson requires a skilled and highly motivated and fast learner Technician with high attention to detail to help it achieve its current and long-term battery ambitions and support its RDD lab activities.
Key responsibilities:
You will join a growing team of chemists and engineers in Dyson’s Strategy & Research Group. Your focus will be to perform chemical processes under guidance from senior scientists. You will:
Involved in a program of research developing novel battery components
Be heavily focused on hands on laboratory work, supporting researchers by making battery components and testing those
You will be involved in producing batches of material with a high degree of reproducibility and accuracy.
Able to cope with highly demanding workload with high attention to detail and precision
Follow processes/tests from start to finish, keeping management and researchers informed of the progress
Able to organise workload on a weekly basis with priority guidance from management
Work within an energetic research environment focused on innovation
Be trained to gain a better understanding about research in batteries
About you
Qualifications, skills and behaviours:
Education and experience:
Experience of a Laboratory environment
Hardworking and keen to learn
Good track record for attention to detail
Methodical approach to work
Good organisational and planning skills
Good written and verbal communication
Familiar with COSHH and risk assessments, and good laboratory practices
Ability to follow standard operating procedures
Desirable experience:
HND/ A-levels (Maths; Chemistry; Physics), Degree in a Science discipline (Physics; Electrical Engineering; Chemistry, Biology etc.) or equivalent depth of chemistry knowledge/experience.
Familiar with standard chemical processes such as weighing, dissolving and filtering.
Familiar with making scientific measurements and understand the importance of accuracy and precision.
Keep good records of you work and present results in a meaningful fashion.
Strong problem solving skills exemplified by the ability to diagnose and rectify problems
Ability to communicate appropriate, concise and accurate information in written and verbal format.
Essential behavioural skills:
Enjoy practical work
The ability to manage personal contribution to a project with guidance from a manager
Excellent analytical ability and attention to detail.
To be able to multi-task and plan effectively when working with a variety of project teams in an often high-pressure, competitive environment in an organised manner.
Excellent team working skills.
