About Us

The Machine Learning team, responsible for delivering tangibly intelligent products across all categories at Dyson, is looking for a Machine Learning Data Engineer to join the Singapore team. You will be working within a global, diverse, highly skilled and multi-functional machine learning team; conceiving and delivering technology right at the beginning of our product development cycle.

Working alongside researchers, engineers and designers, we blend cutting-edge machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques with an in-depth understanding of user behaviours. We utilise anonymised data from our connected devices and build prototype rigs to conduct rigorous qualitative and quantitative experiments and trials, inventing novel solutions to 'impossible' problems.

About The Role

To do machine learning and artificial intelligence well, we need data along with the foundational infrastructure to prepare training/testing sets and deliver ML pipelines. As part of the Data Engineering team you will be responsible for designing/setting up infrastructure and writing scripts to clean and integrate data from various sources, forming the backbone upon which the Machine Learning Team will deliver transformational projects into the business.

You will play a pivotal role in a rapidly growing team, developing intelligent features for our existing product categories, or enabling core functionality in our future products that most can’t even imagine.


Take a hands-on role to help meet or exceed ML project requirements (in partnership with other business and data teams) which include:

  • Designing and building high quality, reliable data infrastructure that meets all performance and functional criteria

  • Performing exploratory data analysis, data visualisation of various types of data, including but not limited to numerical, text, image, audio, video data, etc

  • Building up data transformation pipelines to clean and format data at scale for Machine Learning purposes

Take an active role to ensure that all problems are resolved thoroughly and validated through appropriate test methods

Design and develop clean, documented, and easy to maintain code.

Detail and maintain supporting documentation to ensure data governance, risk and privacy requirements are met, and for ease of accurate project handovers to downstream teams

Communicate between all relevant teams (internal and external) to ensure effective and timely input and collaboration

Derive a plan for your own work in order to meet project and design goals in a timely manner

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, data-centric or quantitative discipline

  • 1-3 years’ experience as a Data Engineer, Software Developer, or similar

  • Proficiency in Python and SQL

  • Ability to explain and demonstrate understanding of cloud storage, hosting and compute environments (familiarity with Amazon Web Services is advantageous)

  • Ability to explain and demonstrate understanding of machine learning processes

  • Capacity to independently manage duties with minimal supervision

  • Good communicator – a team player with positive attitude; Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional, cross-geographical teams

  • Passion for technology, good problem solving and analytical skills; Enthusiasm to keep up to date on technological advancements in the industry, keen to learn about and share new methods and techniques
