Description

We are looking for a Senior Product design engineer to join our multidisciplined team to work on our next generation of Environmental control products. We develop new technologies to treat the air that we breathe by sensing the environment, capturing pollutants and delivering clean air that will cool, heat or humidify our users. We work as a collaborative team with disciplines focused in user experience design, airflow delivery design, cable harness integration, motors and drive systems and air treatment technologies. We are solving problems for people globally and we design for a diverse range of user needs and home environments. We research and design to build prototypes that demonstrate the technology, intuitive features and performance so that we can trial and review to deliver authentic and better design.

Accountabilities

  • Support with creation of specifications and requirements definition and rationalization, test methods development verification and validation process. 
  • Delivery and planning of Design tasks based on agreed deliverables and decisions need to be made prior to it. 
  • Apply innovative problem solving skills to support the vision specification for new product concepts 
  • Challenge and develop Dyson engineering practices to continuously improve design quality. 
  • Prepare documents and progress overview for a regular design reviews with the Design Manager, Engineering Manager and RDD Director – justify design detail and collaborate with other specialists. 
  • Uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products/processes 
  • Is accountable for managing the performance of a small team within own function, driving team engagement and supporting individual development Provides technical guidance to employees 
  • Typically resolves complex problems, or problems where a precedent may not exist 
  • Works independently, receives minimal guidance

Skills

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent 
  • Previous experience designing manufactured products and practical knowledge of 3D CAD 
  • Experience managing a small team 
  • Sound understanding and knowledge of physical and mechanical principles. 
  • A pragmatic, practical and methodical design development skills through prototyping, testing and evaluation of results 
  • Ability to plan ahead, prioritise your tasks and coordinate with the work of others. 
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skills. 
  • A strong understanding of practical and methodical design development through prototyping, testing and evaluation of results 
  • Knowledge and understanding of plastic injection moulding, tooling and other manufacturing methods 
  • A passion for engineering. Able to demonstrate how your ideas have made a difference
