In order to do this, our Senior Design Engineers are challenged to develop products that meet or exceed the technical specification, cost and time requirements set. Senior Design Engineers are expected to drive for results using a flexible, challenging and diligent approach.

About the role

  • Apply innovative problem solving skills to support the vision specification for new product concepts

  • Day to day mentoring of Design Engineers/Graduate Design Engineers including technical guidance

  • Implement great design and solve engineering problems to make products that meet all safety, performance and functional criteria within demanding project timescales

  • Challenge and develop Dyson engineering practices to continuously improve design quality

  • Communicate between all teams within RDD and Global Operations to ensure effective and timely input

  • Participate in regular design reviews with the Design Manager, Engineering Manager and RDD Director

  • Work with research teams to integrate and develop new technology research into the final design

  • To participate in design reviews with Lead Design Engineers, Engineering Managers and Heads of Department – justify design detail and collaborate with other specialists

About you

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.

  • Between 3-5 years previous experience designing manufactured products and practical knowledge of 3D CAD and 2D drawings including GD&T and tolerance stack.

  • A strong understanding of practical and methodical design development through prototyping, testing and evaluation of results.

  • Demonstrated good design consideration for plastic, metal and rubber parts.

  • Knowledge and understanding of plastic injection process and other manufacturing methods.

  • Sound understanding and knowledge of standard industrial measurement methods/physical principles.

  • Practical hands-on skill and ability to operate basic workshop machinery.

  • Knowledge in ESD, FEA, thermal analysis and statistical analysis will be an advantage.

  • A passion for engineering. Able to demonstrate how your ideas have made a difference.

  • Excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Independent, integrity and self-driven with a strong focus on results.
