Dyson offers a unique opportunity for a talented Senior Electronics Research Engineer within the Technical Research team. Candidates with adequate knowledge in the electronics system design along with good experience in embedded software or sensors integration are highly desirable.
The team is expanding in the current year. Team members work across several product categories and are involved in a range of technologies including embedded electronics, sensors and software development for prototyping. We work very closely with the New Product Innovation (NPI) teams and deliver technologies into new products during the research phase. The successful candidate will be supporting sensing technology platforms to enable specific product features, as well as conducting research into future technologies.
Technology areas include vision systems, sensing.
About the role
We work alongside the mechanical, thermal, aero/acoustic and other teams in Technical Research to help find the best technologies and integration approaches. In this role the work will involve shorter term projects targeting specific products, alongside long-term research projects to bring emerging technologies into future Dyson products and categories.
Software/ Hardware development that supports any of the following: every aspect of data collection from real devices and sensors, pre-processing, training, validation of machine learning models, deploying trained models back to embedded devices and testing performance.
Assist and support colleagues on defining the right sensing and data acquisition strategies. Advise what data should be collected and what hardware is needed.
Propose signal feature extraction algorithms, state machines and prototype implementation.
Build sensing prototypes and experiments.
Demonstrate robust and viable solutions for use in product through laboratory testing.
Ensure that requirements, risks, plan and architecture details are captured and documented.
Education and experience:
BEng/Meng/PhD (or equivalent) in Electronic Engineering, BSc/MSc (or equivalent) in Engineering Physics/Software/Electronics or other relevant discipline and a demonstrable level of industrial experience in a relevant industry.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate ability to research, innovate, and contribute to IP generation.
We are looking for applicants with knowledge of embedded systems for supporting experimental activities, prototyping, experimental design, debugging and testing new solutions.
Minimum technical knowledge:
Electronics, embedded software and hardware interest and experience.
Experience in characterisation of electronics components, systems and sensors.
Fundamental knowledge of electronic circuit theory and design.
Exposure to, schematic capture and PCB layout using CAD tools.
Use of MATLAB or Python.
Project management and documentation software.
Knowledge of applied ML libraries.
Working experience in a laboratory environment.
Use of laboratory electronics equipment to set up experiments and take precise measurements.
Experience in writing risk assessments and testing protocols.
Ability to build, test and modify prototypes.
Essential behavioural skills:
Be a great software/hardware developer and algorithm designer.
Real-time data processing.
Experience in a higher-level language (Python, Matlab) and/or C++
Curious and inventive. Propose a new way of using popular sensing technologies.
Strong interest in sensors and applied machine learning.
Excellent analytical ability and attention to detail.

Knowledge of Atlassian tools, including Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket.
