Being a pivotal role in the concept to production of Dyson Designed Battery Cells and Packs puts the Energy Storage Development (ESD) team at the heart of this exciting journey. The Team will translate early concept directions into fully developed, optimised & validated solutions to make at high volume for the next generation of Dyson products.

About the role

This role forms key technical contribution of the Battery Pack Verification and Validation for next generation battery pack development and realisation. Develop, improve and optimise comprehensive pack testing capability, methodology to ensure all pack requirements are fully evaluated with effective data analytics.

A successful candidate will have technical skills with hands-on approach to set up testing equipment and tools, perform the pack verification, efficient data analysis and regulatory/internal validation. The role will report to the ESD Application team.

  • Be a key technical contributor of the Dyson battery pack verification and validation to develop, improve and optimise test methods for the pack energy, power, reliability and safety evaluation in a precise and efficient manner.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive verification and validation plans, which includes prototype pack testing, performance characterisation, and accelerated aging under various operating conditions.
  • Design and conduct tests to evaluate the electrical, mechanical, and thermal performance of battery packs, focusing on high-power output capabilities, cycle life, energy density, and safety parameters.
  • Analyse test results and data to identify design flaws, performance limitations, and potential failure modes, and collaborate with the design team to implement necessary improvements.
  • Apply advanced diagnostic techniques and tools to assess battery pack performance under real-world conditions and analyse any deviations or failures.
  • Utilise analytical programming tools and statistical process control for effective data extraction, processing, visualisation, analytics, dashboards and report management.
  • Create and update documents for battery pack test methods, standard operating procedures, risk assessment.
  • Ensure all battery pack testing meets the necessary methods to gain approvals in conjunction with the product/battery pack design and compliance engineering.
  • Be responsible for testing capability development which involves equipment specification refining, technical discussion with suppliers, equipment installation, commissioning, modification and improvement.  
  • Devise and set up battery pack testing fixtures with flexibility and efficiency for various structural packs.
  • Challenge and develop Dyson engineering practices to continuously improve on efficiency.

About you

  • Experience in verification and validation of lithium-ion battery packs for high-power applications, such as power tools, vacuum cleaners, drones.
  • Understanding of battery chemistry, pack design principles, and system integration requirements for high-power applications.
  • Proficiency in designing and conducting tests to evaluate battery packs performance, cycle life, energy density, and safety parameters.
  • Experience with advanced diagnostic tools and techniques for analysing battery pack performance and failure analysis.
  • Familiarity with industry safety standards and regulations for lithium-ion battery packs.
  • Proven track record in leading verification and validation activities, including the development of test plans, test protocols, and reporting of results.
  • An ability to execute hands-on battery pack evaluation in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Skills of analytical programming tools (Python, Matlab, R, Excel VBA etc.) and statistical process control tools (Minitab, JMP etc.) 
  • Documentation skills to summarise test methods, technical reports, standard operating procedures, risk assessment and RFI/RFQ.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • An ability to work on several tasks concurrently without losing focus.
  • Good organisational skills with methodical and detailed approach.
  • Must demonstrate a passion for working for Dyson.


  • Appreciation of relevant Battery technology or battery products across the industry.
  • When required, travel to other Dyson facilities in Asia/UK for project engineering build support.

Educated to Degree level (Engineering, Scientific based)
