Senior Engineer / Scientist – Technology Research

About the role
This role is part of a growing new research team tasked with exploring exciting new opportunities within the Floorcare category. The team’s primary objective is to apply their skills and experience to invent and develop technologies that enhance the company’s technical advantage in future products.
We work very closely with the New Product Innovation (NPI) team and deliver technologies into new products during the research phase. A successful candidate working in the new technology team to generate new ideas and technologies to enable specific product features, as well as researching into future technologies.

Key responsibilities

  • Proactively identify potential research areas in the field of surface mechanics, rheology, and materials. 

  • Develop technology concepts to prove out fundamental scientific insights.

  • Application of theoretical understanding to develop insightful practical experiments.

  • Identify equipment and external collaborations to support key research areas.

  • Simulate, design, build and test prototypes as part of a technology development project.

  • Presentation of proposals and review findings at all levels.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to your peers in your expert area of knowledge.

  • Generation of novel intellectual property.

Key skills

  • Graduate or postgraduate in Material science, Engineering, Physics, Tribology, or similar areas.

  •  At least 3 years working experience in either academia, industry, or industry-facing upstream research roles; ability to research, innovate and contribute to strengthening the culture of innovation within the department.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills; able to demonstrate clear, logical thought with attention to detail.

  • Capability to lead a robust scientific investigation. Able to safely specify experimental and/or simulation programmes and effectively analyse results for statistical significance, summarise findings and make recommendations.

  • Communication and presentation skills; able to translate and communicate complex technical content to a wide range of audience.

  • Proactive and persistent nature combined with an inquisitive approach.

  • Good organisational skills, able to plan ahead, prioritise tasks, and co-ordinate with the work of others.

  • Adaptable, flexible, and able to respond to changing requirements and emerging situations.
