Dyson offers a unique opportunity for talented individuals to invent, design and develop market leading products for the global market. By working in our world-class research, design and development (RDD) department, these individuals have the opportunity to work alongside leading technical specialists and highly motivated creative people to create products which fulfil our ambition of being truly different and better than our competitors.
About the role
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced fluid dynamics engineer to work within a team of like-minded engineering problem solvers within our Technology Development – Environmental Care and Lighting department. The successful candidate will apply their skills and experience in aerodynamics and thermodynamics to provide insight and understanding to the business. They will carry out experimental and simulation investigations to understand the key drivers for maximising the air flow performance of our products and provide effective suggestions to make improvements.
Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the Senior Fluid Dynamics Engineer will lead the fluid and thermal performance development of one of our environmental care or new category products. Working at all stages of the development life cycle, they will collaborate across Technology Development, Design Engineering, Electronics and DDM teams to set pressure budgets and track sub-assembly performance.
Responsibilities:
To drive designs forward based on sound engineering knowledge and ensure correct decisions are taken at all stages of the design process with regards to air flow delivery
To investigate and solve complex aerodynamic problems using experimental and 1D to 3D simulation methods, as appropriate
To analyse test and simulation results, summarise and communicate findings to other members of RDD, including senior managers, directors and James Dyson
To liaise with development teams to ensure an effective transfer of technology into our product range across the Dyson world

A good working knowledge of commercial CAD tools, preferably with experience of the NX suite of products
A good understanding of the principles and application of CFD, preferably with experience of the ANSYS suite of analytical tools
A sound understanding of experimental techniques, particularly with regards to pressure, temperature and flow measurement
A relentless curiosity to solve complex problems with a methodical and structured approach
A drive to apply exceptional attention to detail to every aspect of work and produce highly accurate results
A proven ability to work as part of a team or un-supervised to an agreed goal or set of deliverables
