About The Role
The Senior Legal Counsel is responsible for leading the legal function in South-East Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Philippines) and India (“Region”) and supporting the businesses in achieving their strategic plans. You will be responsible for providing a wide range of legal, risk and compliance advice to the Leadership Team and their teams in the Region. You will also be required to support the broader Group Legal and APAC Legal teams on regional and global projects.
This role is part of the broader APAC Legal team at Dyson, which is led by the General Counsel of APAC and will be based in Singapore.
Manage legal requests and provide high quality, timely and commercially focused legal services to the Leadership Team and broader business in the Region
Provide advice and support on a wide range of matters including commercial law, competition and consumer law, leasing, privacy, and company secretary activities. Strong understanding of legal issues relating to consumer protection laws and competition laws is critical
Build collaborative and productive working relationships with key stakeholders
Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of contracts including distributor/ retailer contracts, leases for retail stores and key operational sites, supplier/ vendor contracts and e-commerce related contracts
Review a wide range of marketing claims and assets including substantiation documentation and advising key risks. Strong understanding of advertising and marketing laws, and experience dealing with regulators in the Region e.g ASAS, ASA, CMCF, ASC etc. is critical. Understanding of health/medical claims is highly desirable
Manage and/or support disputes, regulatory actions, legal notices, consumer cases and competitor challenges within the Region
Identify and escalate compliance risks and implement processes to mitigate such risks. Extend support in managing employment risks and product regulatory/ compliance issues
Provide legal and compliance trainings to the business
Work collaboratively with the APAC Legal team and broader Group Legal teams and assisting with regional and global projects as needed
Regularly monitor legal updates (cases, legislation, media releases from regulators etc) and ensure relevant stakeholders are updated on all relevant matters
About You
We are seeking an experienced, proactive and organised commercial lawyer who has the following experience and attributes:
Minimum 7 years PQE
Preferably already based in Singapore
Must have in-house SEA legal experience in a global company
Experience in a range of matters as set out in the Main Responsibilities section
A tech or consumer goods background is advantageous
Demonstrated ability to provide strategic legal advice and providing workable solutions, whilst managing risk and working with the business to achieve effective outcomes
Demonstrated ability to advise, influence and collaborate with senior stakeholders
Should be dynamic and open to adapting new challenges
Prior experience in managing common law and civil law issues, is desirable
High level of integrity
Possess strong business acumen, crisis management and communication skills, both oral and written
Has the confidence to speak up and challenge decisions when required
Resilient – able to bounce back and pivot quickly with a positive attitude
Able to stand firm with the business when enforcing / implementing new ways of working
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and able to deliver high quality outcomes quickly
Highly organised with excellent time management skills
Passion for accuracy and strong attention to detail
Demonstrates strong collaboration ability with internal team, stakeholders and the business
