About us

The SEA Commercial Motors in Technology Development Department is responsible for providing motors and pumps expertise for all project teams. We ensure consistent use of motors and pumps for specific applications. We also drive motors and pumps development and ensure solutions are delivered on time, cost and quality. We always work closely with Category, RDD, SQE, GPVT, Procurement and suppliers to ensure motors and pumps readiness meet all projects’ requirements.

About the role

The Senior Motor Engineer will be responsible for managing motor technical development activities across all Dyson product portfolios. This will require regular collaboration with cross functional team to ensure robust specification and on time delivery with minimal supervision. The candidate requires a strong knowledge of electric motor, test methodologies, and hold a broad understanding of industrial engineering processes.

  • Develop electric brushed and brushless DC motor specification from prototype stage until production and part approval stages according to performance, time and cost requirements

  • Review builds and tests by working with design leads to agree on specification requirements, develop build plan and deliver motor sample to ensure resolution of required targets being achieved

  • Review and advice motor failure improvement action decision

  • Carry out design simulation and statistical analysis for technical risk assessment (FMEA) action and risk review decision making

  • Liaise with motor suppliers on motor requirement specification and testing requirement in accordance with Dyson standards

  • Lead project technical reviews, technical studies and Six Sigma based project as project Champion

  • Report to Motor Team Leader/Motor Manager on project deliverable status and technical risk escalation

About you

  • A minimum 2nd class upper Degree/Masters in Electrical/Mechanical/Mechatronics (or other relevant engineering disciplines)

  • A minimum 3 years’ experience working in industry

  • Previous experience in electric motors development and testing

  • Attended and completed Design or Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt projects

  • Self-starter and able to work independently

  • Ability to communicate appropriate, concise and accurate information, both in writing and verbally

  • Confident in leading discussions, presentations and ability to evaluate technical problems to ensure clear decision and direction

  • Be able to multi-task and plan effectively when working with a variety of project teams in an often high-pressure, competitive environment

  • Hands on practical workshop skill and good knowledge on PMP tool

  • Commanding knowledge in Advance statistical methods – MSA, DOE, Monte Carlo, ALT

  • Commanding knowledge in Magnetism, Thermodynamic heat transfer and basic fluid flow

  • Commanding knowledge in Dyson product integration performance related to motor

  • Commanding knowledge in Six Sigma tools and methodology

  • Advance skill level in MS Office (Including Excel, Project and Visio) package usage

  • Advance skill level in Minitab and Reliasoft Weibull statistical tools

  • Advance skill level in product lifecycle management software (SIEMENS PLM)

  • Advance skill level in CAD tools such as SIEMENS NX, Unigraphics

  • Advance skill level in electrical and magnetism simulation tool such as ANSYS Rmxprt and Maxwell (Including others within ANSYS Workbench Suite)
