About the role

Our Product Engineers work within our design teams to help meet or exceed the technical specification, cost and time requirements on our products. Working alongside Design Engineers, Design Managers and Senior Engineers, our Product Engineers are encouraged to be thoroughly hands on when developing products from Project Transfer through to manufacture.

  • Work closely with Design Manager, Project Manager and Operation Project manager, the Product Engineer will manage the deliverables to put new Stock Keeping Units (SKU) for production, taking responsibility for the product specification, Validation and Engineering BOM creation through to production.

  • Manage the Engineering build throughout the project development process till SOP. He/she required to work with Contract Manufacture to make the build happen according to the time plan

  • Manage multiple SKUs, each may be at different stage of development and have different SOP target, hence will require him/ her to have excellent attention to detail to keep track of each SKU status as a project.

  • Manage and track progress of assembly and support team to get the deliverables closed at every iteration. He/she must have close relationship with the assembly and support team.

  • A good communicator to discuss project challenge and update project status with his/ her project team and Team Leader. He/she must be able to use in-house system for all types of approval.

  • Liaising with Current Support team for project transfer.

  • Manage new SKU BOM – Manage new BOM start from release for development till approve for production. To ensure all product structure are according to latest design revision for all iteration.

  • Manage in house prototype build. Consolidate information from Design engineers and other support team to manage prototype build. Work closely with in house Workshop to deliver the rigs.

  • Consolidate all sample requests for EB runs and manage the build. To ensure latest information from engineering team pass to Contract Manufacture (CM). Attend weekly meetings with CM.

  • Manage SKU deliverables – BOM and Top-Level SKU drawings, Rating plates, validation discussion, Machine allocation, Change Request actions, ISIR, golden machine sign-off, Deviation Request review etc.

  • Coordinate and liaise with CM, assembly teams and other supporting departments for engineering build and Top Level BOM deliverables.

  • Managing key activity as -Engineering Change Request, Test Request for engineering Build, Specification & Requirement, Prototype build Request, part approval report and KPI report.

About you

  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering /Product Design / Manufacturing) or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 3 years working experience in all aspects of the design process from concept to production.

  • Possess a working knowledge and understanding of fundamental physical theories and general engineering principles.

  • Fast leaner to familiar with product specification, have an understanding of test procedures and equipment.

  • Good project management skill, he/she need to work with multiple stakeholders (Marketing and Planning, Approval, Commercial and Production team) to develop New Product Innovation (NPI)/ SKU to hit targeted time plan.

  • Familiar with engineering Bill of Material (BOM), able to create, manage, develop new engineering BOM base on marketing requirement.

  • Good experience in managing General Assembly (GA), creating and maintaining engineering drawings using 3D CAD (Uni-graphics).

  • A comprehensive understanding of design change management, including the change notice process, and an appreciation of the impact of design changes.

  • The ability to work on a number of tasks concurrently without losing focus.

  • Self starter, highly motivated person with good communication skills and able to motive a team.

Malaysia Development Centre: A world-class development centre

In 2003, after 10 years of rapid expansion in the UK, Malaysia was chosen as an additional location to allow the continued growth of Dyson’s manufacturing and testing facility. It was close to component manufacturers and much of the supply chain, as well as providing very high levels of manufacturing quality. Over time, Dyson operations expanded in Malaysia. Having started out with a team of just 10, today our Malaysia Design Centre has grown to be a base for more than 1,200 skilled Dyson people working across Engineering, IT, Finance, Creative and HR. Our Johor facility had humble beginnings, but what was originally a few small labs covering 350m² is now a bustling campus occupying 50,000m², including state-of-art acoustic chamber, environmental chamber, and rapid prototyping facilities. It’s an important centre for research, development, design and testing – home to an exceptional team.
